Strauss ECE

Strauss ECE The STRAUSS ECE is a play-based center for early childhood education in Tucson, part of Kol Ami Synagogue. Quality First accredited.

We serve 6 weeks through Pre-K across sixteen classrooms, with an emergent curriculum that follows each child's curiosity. The Strauss ECE and Kindergarten promotes the development of young children from 6 weeks to 5 years of age in a nurturing and stimulating play-based program that encourages creativity, decision-making and problem-solving skills and a joy of learning. Age-appropriate activities challenge each child to develop his social, emotional, intellectual, physical and spiritual potential. Teachers here are emotionally responsive to the children in their care and the ever-changing, emergent curriculum provides children with opportunities to delve into questions as they arise, teaching them the merits of intellectual curiosity. In fully exploring topics of relevance to them, learning through imaginative play, and expressing themselves through a variety of media, children emerge from this program with strong foundations of independence and self-esteem that are critical to their ongoing personal and academic development. With small class sizes and low student-to-teacher ratios, individualized attention can be given to every child and family in our program. We understand that each child progresses at his or her own pace in all aspects of learning and extend support and encouragement each step of the way.

We had a special guest today.

Hailey from Quality First joined us to share stories, yoga, and simple exercises that help children learn to notice their feelings and settle their bodies. It looks like play, and it is, but learning to pause, breathe, and reset is one of the most important skills a young child can build. It is the quiet groundwork behind sharing a toy, waiting a turn, and bouncing back from a hard moment.

Nothing beats the guests who make our days a little bigger. Thank you, Hailey.

Big smiles to close out the week.

We gathered for Shabbat this morning with our Rabbi and Cantor, and the room was full of song, joy, and a whole lot of happy faces. It is one of our favorite ways to send everyone into the weekend.

Wishing all of our families a restful one. Shabbat Shalom.

Big adventures are easier hand in hand. A couple of our one year olds took a walk to the big kids' side of our preschool today to see where the threes and up spend their days. New things can feel scary when you are small, but a friend makes anywhere feel safe.

Someday it will be their turn.

Today, they just held hands and looked.

Some of the best sounds at Strauss happen when Cantor Jen arrives.
Every Wednesday, our classrooms gather in the small chapel Kol Ami Synagogue and fill it with music. Cantor Jen and her guitar, a lot of singing, and even more dancing, for our one year olds all the way up. With young children, music is so much more than fun. It builds language and listening, early math through rhythm and pattern, memory, and the confidence that comes from being part of a group that sings together. And on top of all that, it is simply one of the happiest parts of our week.

Music with Cantor Jen is one of many enrichment experiences woven into life here. Our days are full of the kind of hands-on, joyful learning that helps young children grow, from music and movement to art, stories, and play with purpose. At Strauss, enrichment is not something extra. It is simply how we teach.

Swipe through a few moments from today.

This is how we head into the weekend.

We gathered for Shabbat this morning, sang and celebrated together, and sent everyone off with full hearts. Now the weekend is yours. Rest well, enjoy it, and we will see you back here next week.

Shabbat Shalom from all of us.

And the rest of the teachers your children spend their days with.

They hold the hard moments with the same care as the joyful ones, and they build the kind of trust that is earned in a thousand small moments. Every one of them helps make this a place where children feel safe, known, and glad to be here. We are lucky to have them.

More of the teachers who make Strauss what it is.

Before the first child arrives and long after the last goodbye, they are planning, noticing, and quietly making the day work. Early childhood teaching is one of the most important jobs there is, and one of the least recognized. So we will keep saying it: we are grateful for the people who spend their days caring for your children.

The rooms are ready, but it is the people inside them who make a child feel known.

These are the teachers who greet your children each morning, learn what settles them and what lights them up, and turn an ordinary day into a great one. Their work is patient, skilled, and mostly unseen from the outside. Today we want you to see them, because they are the reason your child walks in and feels at home.

That's a wrap on our first week.

New faces, new friends, and the particular sound of a building full of children finding their footing. There were big feelings and brave goodbyes, a lot of play, and by Friday, the start of that settled-in feeling we love to watch take hold.

Our first Shabbat was pure joy. Challah, song after song, and a room full of dancing to send us into the weekend.

To our families, thank you for trusting us with your children. We are so glad they are here.

Wishing you a restful weekend. Shabbat Shalom.

Part two: the rest of our rooms.

Yesterday we showed you the first half of our classrooms. Here are the rest, each one set up by hand with the same care: a place to read, materials chosen with intention, and a space made to feel like home from the very first morning.

Fifteen rooms, and behind every one of them a team who spent the quiet weeks before the year getting ready for your children.

Featured today: Egootanot, Kofim, Peelim, Deeshonim, Nemarim, Soosim, and Tzevayim. If you missed the first half, scroll back to yesterday's post to see them all.
