The Purple Bamboo Ensemble was launched by Dr. Janet Sturman in 1999, with the purpose of providing It will be devoted to learning the music by playing it.

Purple Bamboo Asian Music Ensemble is designed to study the nature of Asian music by exploring its unique characteristics, the character of the various instruments, and the elements of aesthetics. The class will be taught using both number notation and oral tradition. No prior historical musical experience required, but private musical instrument lesson is recommended. Welcome to the β€œWhen Starts Shine” concert presented UA Purple Bamboo Ensemble!

The first half of the program will present Chinese poetry alongside traditional music. In the second half, the Purple Bamboo Ensemble will collaborate with Tucson Sino Choir, conducted by our UA alumna Dr. Mengda Jiang, to showcase the selection of Chinese instruments, festival music, and folk songs.
