Late post, but here’s a final recap!
The 2025 Mid-Atlantic Woodsmen's Meet was a huge success! Seven forestry schools from across the East Coast gathered at Montgomery Community College on April 12th to showcase their skills. We were fortunate to have great weather and an enthusiastic crowd throughout the day.
MCC placed 1st and 2nd in Dendrology, and also earned 3rd place in Archery, Compass & Pacing, and Men’s Axe Throw.
Overall, the top three schools were:Penn State University Park, Allegany College of Maryland, Haywood Community College.
We’re incredibly proud of the sportsmanship and camaraderie shown by all teams!
A huge thanks to the MCC Forestry Club for their hard work in organizing and setting up the event. The competition wouldn’t have run as smoothly without the efforts of Russell Strong, Head Judge Wayne Louys, our dedicated alumni, faculty, and staff volunteers.
Special thanks to our food vendors:Virgil Higgins of Higgins and Son BBQ provided outstanding meals and service to our competitors and volunteers. Fat Backs Soul Food and BBQ was a wonderful last-minute addition, and we’re grateful for their help in feeding our spectators.
We also sincerely thank our sponsors:Environmental Site Keeper, Jordan Lumber and Supply, H.W. Culp Lumber Company, Elite Senior Insurance, New Indy Containerboard, Montgomery County Farm Bureau, PRF Forestry Specialists, NC Forest Service, Mike Thompson, Bud Taylor, Newport Landowner Services Inc., Byrd and Son Inc., Daniel W. Edward Consulting Forestry P.A., H & K Consulting, John Monroe, Fred Monroe, Canal Wood LLC, Lane Poole, and Tugwell Consulting Forestry.
And appreciation goes to those who supported the event behind the scenes: Burford Tree, Bruton Grading, Duke Energy, and Amicks Superstore.
We look forward to hosting again—hopefully around 2033!
