📚✨ Education Spotlight: Ms. M Coleman

Today, we’re spotlighting our amazing Resource Teacher, Ms. Coleman! ❤️ She’s giving us a peek inside her teacher bag!

🎒 What’s in My Teacher Bag? 🎒

Today, my learners participated in a fun, hands-on literacy activity called “What’s in My Teacher Bag?” Students reached into my bag without looking, felt an item, and drew what they thought it was. After revealing each item, we discussed what it was and how it could be used.

Students then chose three items and wrote about different ways I could used in everyday activities.

This activity was helpful because it encouraged students to make predictions, use descriptive vocabulary, communicate their ideas, draw conclusions, and connect real-life objects to functional writing. It also gave learners an engaging way to practice reading and writing skills while making learning interactive and meaningful! 🖤❤️🖤

We are so thankful for Ms. Coleman and all she does to support our students and staff! 🐾❤️

A huge THANK YOU to Strom Thurmond High School and the Strom Thurmond Career & Technology Center for inviting our fifth graders to visit and explore all the amazing career opportunities the Career Center has to offer! ❤️💙

Our students had the opportunity to learn about different career pathways, see hands-on programs in action, and get a glimpse of the many possibilities waiting for them in the future. It’s never too early to start dreaming about what you want to be! 🌟

Thank you for investing in our students and helping them see just how bright their futures can be! ❤️💙

📚✨ EDUCATION SPOTLIGHT: 2nd Grade Math! ✨📚

This week, we’re shining our Education Spotlight on Ms. Bell’s second-grade class! ➕🧠

Ms. Bell’s mathematicians worked together in collaborative groups to solve addition word problems using a variety of mental math strategies and models. Students were able to show their thinking using counters, connecting cubes, ten frames, counting on, grouping with the associative property, making ten, and doubles!

We love seeing students learn that there can be more than one way to solve a problem! Through collaboration, they practiced explaining their thinking, learning from their classmates, and choosing strategies that worked best for them.

Way to go, Ms. Bell and our second-grade mathematicians! ❤️🐾

🎉 Throughout the school year, we’ll be shining a spotlight on the amazing learning happening in our classrooms at Douglas Elementary! We can’t wait to share the creativity, growth, and hard work of our students and teachers.

To kick things off, we’re featuring Ms. Bates’ 4th Grade Class! 📚✏️

Our fourth graders are officially back, and they started the school year by creating timelines of the important moments in their lives. This engaging activity helped Ms. Bates get to know each student while introducing their first writing unit on personal narratives. By reflecting on meaningful life experiences, students are already beginning to discover the stories they can’t wait to tell.

We can’t wait to see all the wonderful things our Panthers accomplish this year! ❤️🐾
