As most of you know, I like to be involved in everything we do. I’m not the type of coach who’s going to ask my riders to do something I can’t or won’t do myself.
Last week we made a friendly bet. We all agreed that we’d run a mile, and whoever finished last had to get a buzz cut and have their hair dyed. The fastest runner got to choose both the haircut and the color. 😂 We gave everyone a full week to prepare… or at least a full week to talk trash.
To make it a little more fair, I even gave the boys a 100-yard head start. 😅
Let’s be honest it had been a while since I’d gone for a run, and these boys don’t exactly spend their free time running either. It was pretty much straight off the couch for all of us.
I finished with a 7:27 mile.
🥇 I managed to catch them and take the win.
🥈 Porter (portman121) finished second, about 100 yards behind me.
🥉 Bentley (Bentley) came in third, roughly another 300 yards back.
Liam (Liam Asselin) battled through some asthma issues, and by the time Porter and Bentley finished, they had actually lapped him.
But here’s the part that made me proud…
Instead of celebrating that they were done, Porter and Bentley turned around and ran Liam’s final lap with him. They encouraged him, pushed him, and made sure he finished strong.
That’s what this program is all about.
If you’ve been to one of my camps, you’ve probably heard me say it a hundred times: there are only two things you can control your attitude and your effort.
Motocross isn’t a team sport when the gate drops, but it absolutely takes a team to become your best. These three boys compete against each other every day, yet they’re constantly picking each other up. When one of them is struggling, the other two are right there encouraging him instead of tearing him down.
As a coach, that’s way cooler to see than who ran the fastest mile.
The goal isn’t just to build faster riders. It’s to build better teammates, better competitors, and better people.
Proud of these boys. The buzz cut was worth it. 🤘❤️
