SPOTTED LANTERNFLY CONFIRMED IN TOPSFIELD
The Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources (MDAR) has recently confirmed an infestation of spotted lanternfly (SLF) in Topsfield.

Spotted lanternfly is an invasive insect that feeds on many types of plants, including tree-of-heaven, grapevines, maple trees, and hops. Large infestations can impact agricultural crops and become a significant nuisance in outdoor spaces.

Spotted lanternflies do not bite or sting. However, they can gather in large numbers and produce a sticky, sugary substance called honeydew that coats surfaces and can encourage the growth of sooty mold.

Manage your leaf litter!
Protect our stormwater systems with these tips for fall yard maintenance! 🍂

🍁 Avoid blowing or raking leaves onto impervious surfaces, such as roads, sidewalks, or driveways.

🍁 Mow fallen leaves into your lawn, or compost them with other yard clippings to improve soil health and decrease your need for fertilizer.

🍁 Participate in municipal fall yard waste collection programs.

Small actions at home can make a big difference for our rivers, streams, and coastal waters.
