New research from The University of Toledo and the University of Missouri found that goldfish released or escaped into the wild can dramatically disrupt freshwater ecosystems β degrading water quality, harming native species and altering aquatic food webs. https://myut.link/cfccc1
Published in the Journal of Animal Ecology, the study provides some of the first rigorous experimental evidence that no freshwater ecosystem appears immune to the impacts of invasive goldfish.
Goldfish may be great pets, but they belong in aquariums β not lakes, rivers or ponds.

UToledo Health orthopaedic resident Dr. Jacob Alexander took a weeklong vacation this spring, not to relax on the beach, but to perform hip and knee replacements for those who are less fortunate. Alexander traveled to Antigua, Guatemala, as a part of Team Hope in Motion, a surgical missions initiative partnered with the nonprofit Faith in Practice. Over the course of the week, the team performed 105 procedures on 100 patients: 60 total knee replacements, 18 total hip replacements and 27 foot and ankle procedures. https://myut.link/i8t
