Yesterday we had the privilege of meeting our community at Marion J. Mohr Memorial Library for story time! As young movers listened along to our story of dancing hippos, they explored creative movement based on what they heard. Our “Dance A Story” class is great for exercising the body and mind through active listening and dance. Thanks to our library partners we’re able to present opportunities to not only encourage development but to MAKE NEW FRIENDS! Where would you like to see us next?

What if fitness started in the sandbox?

We know building lifelong fitness habits begins early but what does this look like for our youngest learners?

Maybe it looks like:

- Letting children feel their heartbeat after a burst of play? Noticing that “my heart is working hard” is a powerful lesson in how exercise strengthens the heart like any other muscle
- Fitness activities other than a race? Inspire children to gallop, dance, and hop with equipment that inspires creativity like hoops, pool noodles for ponies, or butterfly wings
- Incorporating choice indoors and outdoors? Incorporate both sitting and standing activities whether in the classroom or on the playground like a wall mounted white board in the writing center.
