Our Agribusiness Spotlight Week continues with blueridgehoneycompany!

🐝 Owned and operated by Bob and Suzette Binnie, this family business in Lakemont brings decades of beekeeping experience to our community. Bob’s beekeeping journey began in 1981, and that experience helps shape the work they do today!

🍯 Blue Ridge Honey Company keeps its honey raw and unpasteurized, without fine micro-filtering. Stop by to taste their honey and learn more about the work that goes into every jar!

🚨🌾 Agribusiness Spotlight Week: Osage Farms!

To kick off our Agribusiness Spotlight Week, we’re excited to showcase !

🚜 Behind Osage Farms are Ricky and Clint James, fifth- and sixth-generation farmers carrying on their family’s agricultural traditions. Ricky began farming alongside his grandfather and planted his first cabbage patch at just 11 years old!

🍓 Today, Osage Farms grows a variety of fresh produce, including strawberries, tomatoes, corn, and cabbage. Their market gives residents and visitors a chance to enjoy locally grown food while supporting agriculture right here in Rabun County!

🚨🌾 Agribusiness Spotlight Week & “Roots & Routes: A Guide to Rabun County’s Agribusinesses”

This year, as part of our mission to promote agriculture in Rabun County, the Rabun County FFA has finalized the “Roots & Routes: A Guide to Rabun County’s Agribusinesses” brochure, giving an overview and brief insight into the local and nearby businesses that support Rabun County’s agricultural sector.

We are so excited to share this information with you, which will be available at the business locations on the brochure, as well as in other stores and businesses across the county.

Over course of the next week, we’ll be posting more about these individual businesses as part of our “Agribusiness Spotlight Week” in order to provide you with some information that you may not already know.

🥩 Yesterday, Thursday, October 1st, the Rabun County High School FFA Meats Evaluation Team traveled to Oglethorpe County to compete in the regional Meats Evaluation CDE!

This year, the team put in plenty of preparation leading up to the competition, including trips to our local Ingles and Boles Market. Team members were able to study retail cuts firsthand and even get a behind-the-scenes look at the meat department at Ingles.

Their hard work paid off, with the team placing 4th in the region, improving on last year’s finish! The team hopes to continue building on that success and advance to the state-level competition next year.

👏 Please give a hand to this year’s competitors: Austin Woodall, Wesley McCrackin, Madeline Dixon, and William Kelly!

Don’t forget, our fall plant sale is still happening! Stop by the Rabun County Agricenter to grab some mums, petunias, pansies, succulents, dianthus, or even dracena spikes!

We’ve also got some hanging baskets made!

☀️ Calling all FFA Members!

The Rabun County High School FFA Chapter will be taking an overnight trip to the Sunbelt Ag Expo in Moultrie, Georgia, on October 20th and 21st!

All FFA students are invited to attend, with only 20 spots available! Students interested in attending should get with their agriculture teacher(s) for more information.

💲 A $40 deposit is required to reserve your spot for the trip.

We’re looking forward to having a blast this year while visiting more than 1,000 exhibitors across over 100 acres of indoor and outdoor exhibits!

Students will have the opportunity to see livestock demonstrations, participate in contests and activities, check out farm equipment and tractors, and experience even more of what agriculture has to offer.

☀️ We hope to see you at the Sunbelt Ag Expo!

🥩 Tomorrow, Thursday, the Rabun County FFA Meats Evaluation CDE Team will travel to Oglethorpe County to compete against other teams in the region, putting their skills in meat identification, yield grading, and much more to the test!

Team members are Austin Woodall, Madalen Dixon, William Kelly, and Wesley McCrackin.

🚜 Congratulations, Andrew! 🚜

Senior FFA member Andrew Conner competed in the Area 2 Tractor Operations and Maintenance CDE last week at East Jackson High School—and he drove his way to 1st Place in the Area! 🏆

Andrew will now advance to the State Finals at ABAC in December, where he’ll compete against the top students from across the state.

Help us congratulate Andrew on this outstanding accomplishment and wish him the best of luck at State! 👏🎉

Great job, Andrew! We’re proud of you! 💙💛
