SAR’s Performing Arts Department hosted its first-ever “SARts Dinner,” celebrating a year of artistic excellence and achievement across our performing arts programs.
Representing the SAR High School band and choir, Drama Society, Arts Council, and SARts Showcase participants, students, and faculty came together for an evening of celebration, great food, and reflection on a memorable year. The event featured a performance by the SAR High School Choir, Kol Kaveret, an arts trivia competition, banner signing, and the sharing of favorite memories from throughout the year.
One of the evening’s highlights was our senior tribute ceremony, during which members of the Performing Arts faculty honored each graduating senior with personal reflections and a meaningful gift in recognition of their contributions to our community.
We are incredibly proud of this year’s accomplishments and deeply grateful to our graduating seniors for all they have brought to our programs. We will miss them dearly and look forward to another exciting year of creativity, performance, and artistic growth ahead.

The minyan led by Rabbi Wadler, Mr. Ferziger, and Ms. Beer has been learning Masekhet Pesachim every day for the past few months and celebrated with a siyum — complete with chametz donuts! 🍩
Orli W. made a special request for sprinkle donuts, inspired by the many mishnayot focused on zerikat hadam (the sprinkling of blood on the mizbe’ach).
Kol hakavod to all of the students on their dedication to learning, and Mazal Tov! ✨

The SAR-TAPCo partnership celebrated a year of collaboration with a field trip to the New York Botanical Gardens. Over the course of the year, this group met with a cohort of students from TAPCo, an arts-focused public high school in the Bronx. Students bonded over their passion for art, music, and theater, while learning about each others’ cultures and exploring New York City landmarks. They spent a beautiful sunny morning strolling in the gardens. We can’t wait for next year’s partnership!

Machon Siach at SAR High School hosted Bete Yisrael to Israel: The Ethiopian Jewish Journey, a day of learning dedicated to the history, resilience, and ongoing story of Ethiopian Jewry.

At a moment when strengthening Jewish Peoplehood feels especially urgent, students had the opportunity to engage directly with scholars, activists, educators, artists, and community leaders whose lives and work illuminate this often underrepresented chapter of the Jewish experience.

The program featured Ethiopian Israeli scholar Rav Dr. Sharon Shalom and activist Roni Fantanesh Malkai, who reflected on their Aliyah from Ethiopia during Operation Brothers alongside former Mossad commander Dani Limor, whose efforts helped lead the rescue mission. Students also learned from Rav Menachem Waldman, Rabbi of Gondar, and from Joseph Feit and his children Rebecca (SAR High School Parent) and Jeremy, whose humanitarian work continues to support the Jewish community in Gondar today.

Professor Ephraim Isaac, founder of Harvard University’s African and Afro-American Studies Department, spoke about bridge-building between Black and Jewish communities and the enduring importance of dialogue and shared responsibility.

Throughout the day, students also experienced Ethiopian Jewish culture through art, storytelling, music, and food. Tamara Tarango Baynesain led a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony and prepared fresh injera while sharing her journey to Israel during Operation Solomon. Artist and educator Hirut Ruth Yosef guided students in traditional Ethiopian art while reflecting on her childhood in Gondar and her family’s journey to Israel.

Thank you to our speakers, educators, and community partners for creating a day rooted in scholarship, history, and meaningful connection.
