Hello! It's hard to believe that January 2021 is almost over! There is still lots to do in the garden. Most importantly, nutrient dense soil is required to have healthy productive plants. Adding compost from AZ Worm Farm is a great way to improve your soil. They sell it in bags or by bulk. Support local businesses as much as possible. There are many fruits and vegetables you can plant now; Swiss chard, lettuce, carrots, beets just to name a few. For a complete list please contact me and I can email you a planting calendar.
Desert people! I am writing to you today because I am seeing a lot of stressed plants around the valley!! Please water your plants!!! Your irrigation system should run a minimum of one hour for shrubs but with these continued HOT temperatures, add another hour on. Run no more than every other day. For your trees, you want to water to a depth of 24-36 inches. This can be tested by taking a piece of re-bar and pushing it into the soil after your system has ran. The age of your tree will determine how frequently you should run your system. Placement of your emitters is very important. They should not be up against the trunk! Feeder roots grow outward, move your emitters out.
