Highlights of the free BJJ seminar I presented through the City of Tempe:
Day 1: Saturday, Feb. 3, 2024
- Five first time BJJ attendees shared the mat for 90 minutes to learn more about the self-defense aspect of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu!
- In addition to learning BJJ-specific ground movements (sh*****ng, technical stand-up, break falls from seated position) as part of the warm up, and an introduction to the guard, we addressed these four self-defense situations:
1. Standing front punch
2. Front punch from inside the guard
3. Two handed front choke from standing
4. Two handed front choke from inside the guard

Day 2: Saturday, Feb 10, 2024
- We had four attendees return from last week, plus four new participants, none of which had ever trained in martial arts.
- We addressed these four self-defense situations:
1. Standing headlock
2. Face down headlock on the ground (attacker on their back)
3. Standing front hand grab to shoulder
3. Front hand grab to shoulder from inside the guard

Great feedback from all participants, and some interest expressed in pursuing additional training as well! I had a lot of fun and was very pleased to provide this positive and hands on introduction to this great self-defense art!
