It is with a very heavy heart that we share that our beloved Mr. Irvin L. Coin passed away yesterday morning. According to his son, he was calm and went peacefully.
Mr. Coin served as the second ASU TRIO Upward Bound Program Director for over 33 years where he inspired and empowered young people to pursue their dreams through higher education. He truly believed that TRIO was building an army of leaders whose purpose was to change the world for the better. He continued as the first ASU TRIO Director where he laid the foundation for TRIO Programs to grow at Arizona State University. Thanks to his vision and leadership ASU now has 15 Federal TRIO Programs.
Mr. Coin: you always reminded us, "if we change the way we look at things, the things we look at change." You taught us well and we will continue the fight for all to have an opportunity in higher education and beyond. Much TRIO love and may you rest in peace!

High schoolers explore the college experience through Upward Bound
Every summer, around 200 high school students from metro Phoenix spend time at Arizona State University in the Upward Bound program, where they learn what it’s like to be on a college campus — and what it takes to get there. One opportunity the students had was to learn about Hayden Library's Ma...

☀️Meet our Director☀️
~Verónica Hernández~
I am a TRIO alumna from ASU TRIO Upward Bound at Tempe and UC Berkeley TRIO Upward Bound Math-Science sharing a similar background as our current TRIO participants - that is, first generation and low-income. Growing up and recognizing the many sacrifices my parents made to provide for our familia, I realized at an early age that education was/is my pathway in life. Thanks to their support I was fortunate to join TRIO my sophomore year at Carl Hayden Community High School which lead to my being the first in my family to earn a college degree, I'm a proud Sun Devil. Now I celebrate over 30+ years of TRIO experience (as a high school participant, college student worker, instructor, coordinator, director, and now the TRIO pre-college lead) at Arizona State University with this past March marking my 24th year as an ASU TRIO professional. I enjoy serving people in reaching their dreams as they find/realize/follow their passion in life; I love my familia con todo mi corazon as they continue supporting me in everything that I do; and I believe in the power of TRIO and how it changes the world through education.
