When reading has been hard, confidence takes a hit too.

That’s why I focus on both-
building strong readers AND helping kids feel capable again.

This is something I see ALL the time.

A student can “read” a word… but only when there’s a picture to help.

Take the picture away and suddenly they’re stuck.

That’s not because they aren’t capable.
It’s because they haven’t been taught how to actually decode the word yet.

Pictures can support comprehension but they shouldn’t be doing the reading for the child.

This is exactly why I focus so much on building strong, explicit reading skills 💛

A little behind-the-scenes of tutoring lately 💻✨

Lots of those “let’s slow it down and figure this out” moments.

Lots of “wait… I think I got it!” moments.

And yes… a little frustration here and there too. (totally normal!)

Watching things start to click for my students is honestly the BEST part of what I do. 💛

Progress doesn’t happen overnight but it does happen with the right support.

With summer vacation right around the corner, it’s time for us to start thinking about summer tutoring schedules.

Over the next couple of weeks, I’ll be reaching out to begin rescheduling summer time slots for current students. My goal is to keep everyone progressing while also finding times that work well with summer routines, camps, and vacations.

Too often, children are told to “just keep trying” or “they’ll catch up.”

But when a child is struggling to read, waiting for them to fail before providing the right support can cost them confidence, time, and belief in themselves.

Early, structured reading instruction matters.

When we give students the right tools - and the right approach - they can learn to read.

then a tiny in-person office in Minnesota…
then online tutoring in Arizona.☀️
