Balanced nutrition PRO TIP: always request salad dressing “on the side” when dining out.
Can salads be a healthy order to place when eating out? YES and NO
Typically, restaurants will absolutely drown an otherwise healthy, balanced salad with dressing. Dressing immediately increases fat, carbs (sugar) and over all calories.
Manage it on your own. Usually, when a salad is balanced and has lots of fresh ingredients, it really doesn’t need but 2-3 tablespoons of dressing. If you tend to use a lot on your own, focus on adding textures and flavors via whole foods!
Ever asked for dressing on the side before? Comment and let me know!

Sunshine/Sleep
I think we all know at this point how important sleep is right?
You might even already be doing all the nighttime things “right” to improve sleep
Avoiding screen time, cold bedroom, no food a couple hours before, etc…
One thing you might be missing is the aspect of sun in the A.M.
You may be familiar with circadian rhythm and how blue light spectrum can negatively effect your melatonin production and sleep.
The other end of balancing that circadian rhythm is getting sunlight in the A.M.
A lot of people don’t get sunlight in the A.M. and if they do, they have sunglasses on and are fully clothed so you’re really not getting much actual exposure to the A.M. sun rays.
Start w/ 5 minutes in the morning of sunlight with no shades and as much skin exposure as possible.
This could be via a walk, sitting outside for quite time, taking a phone call or whatever.
I hope this brightens up your day (no pun intended) and gives you some energy for those morning meetings!

I recently spoke about common nutrition pitfalls (and creating healthier habits around those) with our Nutrition Challenge participants.
No matter what habits you’ve formed over the years, healthier, more self-aware habits can begin to replace those!
Nutrition Coaching is key to providing the education, tools, healthy habits and accountability to be the healthiest you for the long run!

So excited for my sis and my coach! Laura Canfield Nail Michael McElroy

She had a great time this weekend at coming in 2nd female overall as a good litmus for her final build into the full!
Now the real fun starts! Look out for her results in the near future!

Get outside
Is it the weight or is it my effort?
When lifting gets heavy then throws tempo in there too, it gets me in my thoughts and feelings. So I thought I’d share my thoughts. For what it’s worth:
I have days where I’m mentally drained but not physically zapped. I have days where I’m emotionally drained and it directly affects my physical energy. I have days where I’m mentally 💯 but physically exhausted. Then some days you could put all that in a ball, toss it up in the air and whatever hits me in the head first wins.
Sometimes I can put my finger on it, sometimes I can’t. That’s when that question I started with pops in my head. Is it the weight or is it my effort? Is it really that heavy or am I distracted? Am I letting my mind drift and not focus on the task at hand? Am I allowing myself to relax in a lift that I could easily stand up because I lack the effort to give it all I have? OR… is it heavy, I’m giving it my all, but my form is faltering and I should listen to my body….
I hate to quit. It has to be serious for me not to finish my reps or speed through a tempo movement. That’s what happened today. Mentally I was done, physically I was losing solid form. I eeked one more tempo slant board squat out for 9/10 and I’m ok with it. I never like to come up short because exercise is me challenging myself, but also it’s a tool for me to maintain life balance, a healthy and active lifestyle and for my mental health.
Thoughts? Can you relate? Comment below and let me know…
