Good Evening Calvin Smith Community,
We hope that you are enjoying your Fall Break. This is such a fun time of year with the leaves changing and weather getting cooler.
There are a few information items that we wanted to share with our students and families as we begin Term 2.
Main Office Closed for Training
Monday, October 19th, the office will be closed due to a district-wide Professional Learning event. All contract staff will be at Cottonwood High School. The office will re-open on Tuesday, October 20th at 8:30 AM.
Halloween -
We will celebrate Halloween at Calvin Smith on Friday, October 30th. Students are invited to wear a costume to school that day if they wish. Costumes must be in accordance to our school and district dress codes and safety policies. Students may not wear masks that cover their faces or bring weapons of any kind (real or pretend). If students bring any of these items, they will be kept in the front office until the end of the school day. We will have our Halloween parade outside around the school grounds beginning at 9:00 AM. Please make sure to dress for the weather. Families and friends are encouraged to come and see the students as they parade around the grounds. Families and firends are welcome to come and bring chairs to set up and watch the parade. On that day, classes will not rotate. The students will spend the day in their Homeroom class. Class activities are being handled by the classroom teachers. They will share any information about their class activities. We will send out more information about the parade route as the date gets closer. We are excited for a fun celebration.
Afterschool Activities -
This year our afterschool activities look a little different than they did last year. We are still going to have afterschool opportunities for students, but they will each run independently of each other. Currently we have our Skyhawk Singers running. We are working on the final details for an Art Club, Sports Club, Tennis, and Beginning Fiddling class.
If you are interested in participating in the Tennis class your student can pick up a permission slip in the Front Office. This class will begin on Monday, October 26th. There are only 12 spaces available in the tennis class, so don't wait.
We will send out flyers and permission slips for the other classes and activities as they become available.
Stakeholder Feedback Surveys -
Each year, as part of our efforts to grow as educators, we send out surveys to community members. These surveys are meant to help us know where our strengths and our areas for growth are as teachers and schools. As we have come to the end of Term 1, we want to send out these surveys for families to give us feedback. Please take a few minutes to fill out these surveys for your student's teachers and the principals to help us grow. The links are included below.

Report Cards -
Teachers will be finalizing report cards for students on Tuesday, October 20th. We will print and review the report cards on Wednesday and Thursday. Report cards should be sent home on Friday, October 23rd.
We want to thank everyone for their support as we have navigated this new year with its new challenges. We are seeing amazing things happeneing with our students, and we are excited to continue to see great things. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Calvin Smith Elementary
