Attention students: today I learned we should no longer refer to certain patients as “Frequent Flyers”. The new accepted term is “Super Consumer of the EMS System”. This is not a joke. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

What kind of penalties should be enforced for people that attack providers?

Third District: West Branch Post troopers are investigating an assault on EMS providers that occurred 6/10/26 just after midnight at a home in , Iosco County.

Preliminary investigation indicates that EMS was summoned to a home for a possible overdose and made contact with a 36-year-old man. The man became violent and assaulted both EMS providers, strangling one to the point he almost lost consciousness and threw the other one through a glass shower door. The EMS providers sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Troopers arrived on scene and were able to take the suspect into protective custody and he was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. This morning, police were called to the hospital because the man became violent with staff.

Troopers arrested the man and lodged him at the Iosco County Jail for Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm Less Than Murder.

🚨💀 Code Blue Fact of the Day (Easter Edition) 💀🚨

Alright, I had to share this one today… for obvious reasons. 👀✝️

Did you know:
People can be clinically “dead” (no pulse, not breathing) and still come back—with good neurological outcomes—if high-quality CPR and early defibrillation are started quickly?

Yep. “Dead” doesn’t always mean gone… it can mean we’ve got a window.

In fact, survival rates can double or even triple when bystanders jump in fast with CPR and an AED. Translation: you don’t have to be in a hospital to help bring someone back—you just have to act.

So yeah… today felt like the perfect day to remind you that sometimes, the story doesn’t end where you think it does. 😉

Stay ready. Stay trained. And never underestimate what a few minutes—and your hands—can do.

So how do we change this very obvious problem?

So how do we change this very obvious problem?

Fatigue in EMS isn’t a punchline, it’s a safety threat we’ve normalized.

If you’ve ever been ripped out of a dream by tones at 2:47 a.m., you already know what chronic sleep loss feels like: foggy thinking, slow reaction time, and that “please don’t make me math right now” brain.

Science is clear:
After 17 hours awake, your performance looks like 0.05% BAC.
After 24 hours, it’s equal to 0.10% (legally impaired).

And yet EMS still pushes 24s, 48s, mandatory OT, second jobs, and a culture that says:
“Fatigue? Suck it up.”

We need better schedules, real rest spaces, and leadership willing to admit that “no naps during business hours” needs to go.
