As April speeds by, here is quick update on things to practice with your almost first grader. Can you believe how fast this first year of school went by?

ELA skills to practice:
Reading and writing CVC words. These are three letter words like sit, gap, tug, and run. Encorage your student to write simple sentences and use inventive spelling. Ask them what sounds they hear in the word.
Read to your student, and talk about the characters and the setting. What happens at different points in the story?

Math: practice writing numbers 1-20, adding and subtracting within ten. Counting by tens and fives. Count to 120. Identifying 2d and 3d shapes.

These are just a few things you can do to keep your student at the top of their game for the rest of the year and over the summer😃

This weeks family PAW. Testing starts for kindergarten Friday the 8th. Please be sure your student is well rested. A pep talk helps too! No reason to stress, just try your best!!

Happy Thanksgiving!\

I hope you all have a wonderful week off. We had so much fun, and I know the kids will be excited to tell you about our day! While you are on break, you can practice a few important skills.
Identifying alphabet letters and sounds.
Writing lowercase letters.
Writing numbers to ten.
Counting to 100.
Identifying 2D and 3D shapes.
And reading stories! A bedtime story is a great way to support your child's vocabulary! Talk about the setting, the characters, the problem in the story, and the solution.

We are going to have a great week! Please take a peek at the Family PAW! We can’t wait to see the awesome character costumes! Please remember that kinders cannot wear masks covering their face.

A glimpse at what we are learning and things to practice at home:

Shapes! We are learning about squares, triangles, circles, and rectangles! Can your child tell you how many sides they have? Or how many vertices (corners)?

We are practicing counting objects.

Writing numbers 1-10.

Writing our names and holding our pencil correctly.

Letters: To narrow it down, pick 5 letters each night to review with your student. Can they tell you the name and the sound it makes? Once they master them, pick 5 new ones, but don’t forget to review the ones they already know ;)

We are learning about characters and settings in a book!

And did you know that reading a story to your child helps build their vocabulary, develop language, and prepares them to be future readers? Those bedtimes stories are packed with benefits!

Also, don’t forget popsicle Fridays!
