Where else on a Monday evening can you find the aesthetically inclined gathered in the interest of chicken and other offbeat art and delicious sax music? A virtual (but real) watershed moment for the local art scene.
I'll tell you.
This coming Monday August 17 it's at SDWI Liberty Station at Inspiration Gallery: What the Flock Artist Reception. There will be little pieces of art for the first ten or so people, homemade pie slices (which will go fast ), and the sultry jazzy tunes of the talented Shannon Bates -(I'm painting her a green chicken). There will also be air conditioning.
Light refreshments, strange conversation, and some of the best people willing to show for such an event will be served. 2730 Historic Decatur Rd upstairs Barracks 16.

This work is entitled Mr Jeebers, the Rooster. His sideways glance means, “You’re safe here. I’m keeping watch.”

His body is covered in scribbles like a journal that fell into a puddle then got reorganized by a slightly drunk librarian. The lines are actually a map of where he’s walked when guarding the roost (but also include the time he mistook a garden gnome for an intruder unapologetically). His multicolored feathers represent the little bit of everywhere he’s proudly collected.

Exciting news... I’m going to PARIS with group to teach art and writing in cafes, Sept 26 - October 3 2027!

I invite anyone who is intimidated by doing art like this to come with me ... because I know what that’s like. And it’s more about connecting with the scenery (and the croissants) then rendering anything that looks like a masterpiece... although that frequently happens with my Wild Abandon approach. Most of my students have little or no watercolor experience.

Let me know if you’re interested... The Italy trip filled up quickly . Deets are coming but it’s very affordable and I love the Blue Walk girls. Be the first to know.
