For years, I was the business.

Every deal. Every fire. Every decision ran through me. And I told myself that was just what it took to make this kind of money.

Then I did the math that changed everything.

Take what you made the last 12 months. Divided by 2080, a healthy 40 hour week, all year. That’s your real hourly rate. And here’s the part that stings: if the only way to make more is to work more hours, you don’t own a business. You own a job with the ceiling. There are only 24 hours in a day, and only one of you.

So I built a team. And I got almost all of it wrong the first time.

I waited too long to hire, until I was drowning, and by then I had no time to find good people or train them right. A panic hired never lasts. That’s the whole reason. I’m the owner. A team without accountability isn’t a team. It’s just payroll.

What actually changed it:

I started hiring before I was desperate, while I still had time to train someone to truly replace me. I stopped hoping and started leading, calendar, trackers, clear expectations, and follow-up every single time. And I cross-trained everyone, so my VAs can each do the other’s job, and when one takes time off the business doesn’t even feel it.

That’s the difference between a team that costs you and a team that frees you.
