Hillsborough County Public Schools has been in constant contact with the Hillsborough County Emergency Operations Center concerning Tropical Storm Elsa.

According to the current track, Elsa will impact Hillsborough County starting Tuesday afternoon and throughout the day Wednesday.

Based on guidance from county emergency management, the district will take the following actions in an effort to ensure safety for all students and our employees:

Tuesday, July 6th, 2021

-All Summer School sites, HOST, athletic programs, and After School Programs will remain open on Tuesday, July 6th until 1:00 p.m.;
-All School and District-based sites will close at 1:00 p.m.
-All students must be picked up from HOST, summer school, or school-based camps by 1 p.m. Parents may elect to keep their children home if they cannot pick them up by 1 p.m.
-School administrators and teachers will work with your child to ensure they have the proper time to make up any missed assignments.

Wednesday, July 7th, 2021

-All Summer School sites, HOST, athletic programs, and After School Programs will be closed on Wednesday, July 7th;
-All School and District-based sites will be closed.

Thursday, July 8th, 2021

· Summer School, After School Programs, HOST, athletic programs, School and District Sites will reopen.

When it comes to opening or closing our schools, we must take many things into consideration, that includes possible road closures, high winds, damage to school buildings, power outages and whether our schools are being used as shelters.

Even if our area gets minimal effects from the storm, please remember, our district plays a vital role in supporting our community. County emergency management may need our school sites to open as shelters and our buses are often used to transport people to those shelters.

We encourage all our families and employees to take the necessary precautions at their homes and plan for the possible effects of this storm. You can stay up to date with the latest information on our district’s Facebook and Twitter pages and on our website, hillsboroughschools.org
