The Student Organizations of Library and Information Science (SOLIS) at the University of South Florida is holding executive board elections for the 2023-2024 school year!
(SOLIS) is run by and for students at the School of Information to help you get to know each other better and learn more about the world of library and information science. SOLIS is the combined student chapters of American Library Association (ALA) and Special Libraries Association (SLA).
Some of the benefits of becoming an officer in SOLIS include networking opportunities, leadership experience that looks great on your resume, a chance to meet other passionate MLIS students, and opportunities to plan the kinds of events you want to see as an MLIS student! The time commitment can be flexible as we know many students are balancing school, work, and other life commitments.
The following positions are open: President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, Archivist, Webmaster, and Marketing & Outreach Chair. Descriptions and responsibilities of each position are listed below.
The officer positions typically last for one academic year. No prior experience is necessary, nor does it matter if you are in the first or last semester of the program. To be considered for the position of your choice, email a brief bio, and a short letter of interest to [email protected] by Friday, April 14. The election will be conducted via an online survey.
SOLIS Officer Positions Available:
1. President: shall preside over meetings, oversee organizational functions, and act as a primary University liaison.
2. Vice President: shall assist the President with his/her/their duties and preside over the organization in the President's absence.
3. Treasurer: shall receive, dispatch, and keep accurate records of all financial matters regarding the organization and submit the organization's annual budget to Student Government for A&S allocation.
4. Secretary: shall record, keep, and make available copies of the meeting minutes, and dispatch correspondence related to the student organization.
5. Webmaster: shall create and maintain as necessary the ALA at USF Student Chapter online platforms, including the BullsConnect and Canvas platforms.
6. Archivist: shall document the events and activities of the ALA at USF Student Chapter and preserve and organize existing historical documents and information regarding the history of the organization as related to the Student Chapter.
7. Marketing & Outreach Chair: shall communicate information about the ALA at USF Student Chapter, its mission, and upcoming events. Makes flyers and other promotional materials for events, programs, and posts these on the social media platforms of the organization.

The officers of SOLIS will be holding our next Executive Board (Eboard) Meeting this Thursday, 3/23/2023, from 5:30-6:30 PM, EDT. SOLIS will be holding elections soon for new officers for the upcoming 2023-2024 academic year, and all students who are interested in learning more about what it's like to serve as an officer in SOLIS are welcome to join this Eboard meeting to learn more. Becoming an officer in SOLIS is a great way to build your resume, network with fellow students and professionals in the LIS field, and have a say in the types of events and programs you want to see.
The Eboard meeting will be hosted virtually on Microsoft Teams, and everyone is welcome to attend. We hope to see you there!
