Congratulations to our newest PhD, Dr. Hanna K. Lipsey! She successfully defended her dissertation, “American Horse Power During the Great War,” and graduated from the doctoral program in Fall 2022.

Project House Europe (PHE), Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, seeks to promote cutting-edge research from around the world on the history of Europe during the 20th and 21st centuries.

In honor of the French jurist, politician, president of the European Parliament and Holocaust survivor Simone Veil, Project House Europe has set up a fellowship program for postdoctoral and senior scholars. The program especially welcomes researchers working across disciplines and striving to contribute to the public dialogue on the challenges Europe faces today.

The fellowship program supports outstanding scholars working on the history of Europe’s inner (dis-)entanglements and its place in the world since 1918. PHE particularly welcomes applicants working on a major project examining forms of trans- and international cooperation and their crises.

Terms
Fellows will be based in the heart of Munich at the Project House Europe and have no teaching obligation. They are expected to spend their fellowship in residence, to work on a major project, and to participate actively in life at PHE, including a presentation of their work. Fellowships can be granted for a period of one to three months. Fellowships may begin on 17 April 2023, or the first day of any of the following months; they end on or before 21 July 2023. PHE offers time, guidance, and space for dialogue to conduct excellent research. We provide an office space and access to LMU’s facilities. The fellowship entails a monthly living allowance and also covers economy travel to and from Munich. Health insurance and other social benefits are not part of the fellowship and remain the responsibility of the fellow.

How to apply
Applications must be received by 26 August 2022. The application (in English) should include the following:
- Cover letter (750 words maximum), including preferred dates and duration;
- Curriculum vitae (3 pages maximum);
- Project description (1,000 words maximum);
- Names and contact information of three scholars as references. These should be people who know you and your work well. Please note that we do not initially require letters, and we will not necessarily contact your referees.

Job Alert: The History Department of the College of Charleston invites applications for a visiting assistant professorship in U.S. History to begin the Fall semester of 2022. Historians in all subfields of U.S. History are welcome to apply, with preference for a specialist in Public History. The successful candidate will teach four sections per semester, including both the 100-level general education requirement in pre-modern history (either pre-modern or modern history) and the 200-level U.S. History survey (either pre-1865 or post-1865). 2022 Call For Papers

“Race, Gender, and Sexuality”

The Transnational History Student Organization, formerly the Transatlantic History Student Organization, founded in 2000, in collaboration with the History Department at the University of Texas at Arlington, is sponsoring the 22nd Annual International Graduate Student Conference on Transatlantic History, September 23 and 24, 2022.

The theme of this year’s conference, “Race, Gender, and Sexuality,” will explore the ways in which these fields shape the understanding of history since 1400. We invite paper and panel submissions, as well as interdisciplinary and digital humanities’ project submissions, that are historical, geographical, anthropological, literary, sociological, or cartographic in nature. We highly encourage interested scholars to submit papers that are not explicitly transnational or transatlantic.

Individual paper abstracts should be approximately one hundred words in length and should be accompanied by an abbreviated, maximum one-page, curriculum vita, saved as a single word document. Panel proposals (3- 4 people) should include titles and abstracts of panel as a whole as well as each individual paper. Deadline for submission is July 15. We will notify authors of accepted papers by August 1st. There will be a conference registration fee of $25.00.
