This morning I attended a brunch for 7 women, selected for the invitation by the two hostesses. None of us had much in common except we knew one of the hostesses. One of the woman, Wendy Ernest, teaches a Violence Prevention Class. Now, as she told us about her programs, we all started talking. Remember - there were 7, pretty much random, women (not in the strictest sense of statistical randomness, but you get my drift). Of those 7, THREE had experienced some form of violence against them! That made an impression on me because this is not a topic that we discuss openly very often. So... while not a STEM topic, I wanted to pass on this very important resource to my students and their families. Wendy's classes include: safety education, bully prevention, escape strategies, realization of personal power. She offers classes for very young children through seniors - both sexes! It's 12 hours of instruction, and (if I remember correctly), she offers them for something like $50 per student! I thought - what a wonderful gift for the graduating seniors, especially the girls, heading off to college. You can contact her at [email protected] or visit her website at www.iknowmyplan.com Tell her that Christy, from the "Bazooka" meeting referred you to her (she'll understand!)
