Last night I saw a commercial for a new drug to help raise Hdl, lower ldl and combine with your β€œstatin.” ARGH πŸ˜€β€¦.aside from the fact that these drug companies spend more time telling you about the risks vs reward there are some important things you should know! Let’s be clear, while these markers are relevant, cholesterol is not your enemy. It is possible to have high cholesterol and live to your 90s and have low cholesterol and still die of a heart attack. Eating cholesterol has a very limited impact on the levels in your body! Cholesterol is produced in your liver, is part of your bile and is actually important for your body because every steroid hormone and s*x hormone is made from cholesterol! 20 % comes from food, but this is in a form not readily absorbed by the body. 75% is synthesized from your body itself… and put into all your cells. 20% into your liver and 80% into your other cells. So being mindful of foods matters but not in the way your drs want you to believe.. what matters is the inflammation and impact on other parts of your body that foods and chemicals cause and whether the internal cholesterol oxidizes and what your particle sizes are. But there are no drugs to treat this and make money which is why the myth of statins and raising hdl etc is still alive. Markets like: blood glucose levels, homocysteine, testosterone, and 15 others should be part of all blood tests with your heart doctor. Before you take a statin and get lulled into safety you owe it to yourself to know more. The people that benefit from these drugs are the pharma companies. Here's my step-by-step process on how to quickly shop with ease and confidenceπŸ‘‡πŸΌ!​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​1️⃣ Follow the Clean Fifteen and the Dirty Dozen 🍏 - know which produce to splurge on organic and which produce to buy conventional. The EWG (Environmental Working Group) lists the most heavily sprayed produce (the dirty dozen - buy these organic!) and the least sprayed produce (the clean fifteen - okay to buy conventional).

2️⃣ Buy frozen when out of season πŸ₯­ - You may think fresh is always best when choosing produce however, buying out-of season produce FROZEN ensures you’re getting the freshest, most nutrient-filled option. WHY? The item is frozen at the moment of picking, locking in its nutrients (rather than sitting in cargo boxes for weeks until it arrives to the store).

3️⃣ Splurge when it's worth it - The quality of your food is paramount to feeling great as soon as possible. That’s why I always buy organic, grass-fed when possible. It may be more expensive but it’s the place I’m willing to spend a little extra (it goes a long way).

πŸ™ŒπŸΌ The biggest mistake I made in the beginning of my health journey trying to lose weight, calm digestion distress, reduce depression, and combat insomnia was tackling these issues as if they were separate. β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹πŸ‘†πŸΌ All of the above were related to each other, but that is not how medicine was practiced. I had a separate doctor for all of these things and each prescribed a supplement or med πŸ’Š to deal with that one thing alone.

😣 Little did I know, this would cause me an extra 30 years of distress!

πŸ’‘ Here's what I would do differently today...

πŸ€“ Educate myself about wholistic health and how the body actually works.

πŸ“‰ Baseline my body through functional lab screenings with an FDN-P or Functional Med Practitioner.

πŸ₯€Learn what hidden stressors are hurting me and causing symptoms.
