It would be way more convenient and economical to request families to come to me for literacy sessions, but I love getting to know the kids in their own space and be part of a new environment. Not to mention, so many kids
miss out on help because of the logistics of scheduling and traveling to a tutoring session. It’s my honor and privilege to make every effort to meet with young readers in their home. 🏡👩🏻🏫📖
Reading progress starts to slow as text becomes filled with multisyllabic words, morphemes, and increasingly complex spelling patterns. Well-intentioned strategies like context/picture clues become irrelevant.
The science of reading tells us that at least 40-50% of children will need to be explicitly taught these decoding strategies in order to read proficiently, maybe 15% will learn it almost magically and through exposure, and the rest fall somewhere in between (the “I don’t like school”, “Reading isn’t my strong suit” kiddos).
Imagine the readers we would produce if we used science to dictate our time and curriculum ☀️
Nonsense word reading makes sense. It encourages kids to read using their phonetic knowledge, not lean on unreliable ’clues’, memorization (not appropriate for readers with dyslexia), context (only helpful 10-20% of time), and pictures.
Multisensory approach to literacy makes those skills stick! Along with a science-based, age-appropriate approach to achieving decoding skills, fluency, and comprehension.
Contact me now to prebook your child/co-op/pod for the fall! I come to you, in Tampa and surrounding areas.
There’s a reason we all remember nursery rhymes from our childhood. Music and rhythm is the secret sauce for early learners ❤️

A full day ahead of doing what I love. I get to deliver some personalized reading lessons to a 1st grade homeschooler in Seminole Heights, facilitate a book club at Starbucks with a set of 5th grade triplets (!!!), and do an interactive shared reading lesson and skill groups with a preK-2nd grade co-op in a shed-turned-schoolhouse in Palm Harbor. 📕 📝
