The National De-escalation Training Center - Great Lakes Region, at Wayne State University of Detroit, completed a two-day Principles & Practices training at University Circle Police Department, OH December 2-3. Those in attendance represented the following agencies: Ohio Highway Patrol, Medina Police Department, North Olmsted Police Department, Newburgh Heights Police Department, Willowick Police Department, Wellington Police Department, Cuyahoga County Sheriff, Willard Police Department, Cardington Police Department, CSX Police, and the Department of Defense.
Instructors for this course included Tony Wenger and Ron Ross.
We would like to thank Chief Wetzel and University Police Department for hosting the training.
These de-escalation trainings are provided at no cost to any law enforcement agency in the Great Lakes Region due to grant funding provided by the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) through the Department of Justice (DOJ). Our thoughts go out to the family, friends, colleagues, and community served by Alhambra Police Department Officer Alec Sanders, 28, killed in the line of duty.
Alhambra Police Department Officer Alec Sanders, 28, was pursuing a suspect when the suspect's vehicle crashed into his cruiser. Sanders, who joined the department eight months ago, was "known for his unwavering reliability,” Chief Garrett Kennedy said.
