I just saw a carousel post that made me want to *scream.*

It basically said:

“Real estate agents show houses before getting paid.”

“Builders give quotes before starting projects.”

“Sooooo Travel advisors should stop charging planning fees.”

🙄 🤮

Annnnnd… this is exactly WHY so many talented advisors are exhausted, resentful, overworked, and underpaid.

Here’s the problem.

A custom vacation proposal is NOT the same thing as casually giving someone a price.

You are:
• researching
• strategizing
• matching suppliers
• solving logistics
• managing budgets
• troubleshooting risks
• using years of expertise
• and emotionally carrying the client through decision fatigue

That is not “free quote” work.

That is professional intellectual labor.

And the highest-level service providers in almost every industry understand this:

People who truly value expertise… happily pay for expertise.

Here are 5 reasons that post was dead wrong:

1. Just because an industry normalized something doesn’t mean it’s healthy. Burnout isn’t a healthy or sustainable business model.

2. Travel advisors are uniquely vulnerable to quote shopping and ghosting. People steal itineraries CONSTANTLY.

3. The comparison itself is flawed. Luxury architects, consultants, strategists, designers, and premium builders absolutely charge upfront.

4. Free work attracts undecided buyers. Paid processes attract committed clients. Period.

5. The best businesses don’t operate from desperation. They operate from boundaries, positioning, confidence, and value.

Also — they said you have to “win” clients over.

Ew.

When you know your worth, your value, your service is worth it — ZERO winning required.

In fact it’s the opposite— clients will ASK to work with you. Some of my coaching clients require an *application.*

She was doing EVERYTHING “right.”

Conferences.
Trainings.
Supplier certifications.
Industry events.
River Cruise Expo.

Learning more.
Consuming more.
Trying harder.

And yet…
She still felt stuck.

Not because she wasn’t intelligent.
Not because she lacked talent.
Not because she didn’t know how to sell travel.

But because underneath the business…
She was still standing in her own way.

And THAT is the part most people never talk about.

I’m gonna just say it plainly…

*Most* business investments expire.

Not because they’re bad.
Not because they’re wrong.
Not because they don’t help.

They absolutely do.

A practical mastermind can easilllly cost 6k, 8k, 10k+ and teach incredible strategy, systems, scaling, marketing, leadership, sales, all the things…

But boo… eventually industries change.

Marketing changes.
Algorithms change.
Consumer behavior changes.
Social media changes.
Buyer behavior changes.
The economy changes.

Soooo eventually…

You have to go buy NEW information.

And… Same thing with vacations.

You spend 5k, 8k, 10k creating memories with your family that you’ll cherish foreverrrrr…

And those moments MATTER deeply.

But eventually if you wanna travel again…

You reinvest *again.*

People, please quit calling me a mindset expert.

I know why you do it. I really do. It’s the closest category people can find for what I do. But every single time I hear it, I wanna lovingly grab your face and say, “Boo, that is not what this is.”

Because mindset alone does not explain why somebody with talent, experience, clients, certifications, and proof still hesitates to fully show up.

Mindset alone does not explain why one travel advisor raises their prices and grows while another stays undercharging for ten years even though they KNOW better.

Mindset alone does not explain why successful agency owners still fear visibility, avoid hard conversations, panic while scaling, sabotage rest, overwork themselves into exhaustion, or keep rebuilding their business every time growth stretches their identity.

That’s not just mindset.

That’s identity.

That’s human behavior.

That’s nervous system patterns.

That’s emotional conditioning.

That’s habitual beliefs and actions running on autopilot underneath the business.

And this is where my work is different.

Most business coaches understand scaling, but they don’t understand the emotional and identity patterns that quietly stop people from sustaining the growth they say they want.

Most therapists understand emotional patterns, but they don’t understand entrepreneurship, leadership pressure, sales, visibility, or what it actually feels like to carry a business on your back.

Most faith spaces understand belief, but they often don’t understand nervous system safety, identity formation, emotional regulation, or why shame keeps people stuck in cycles they desperately wanna break.

The overlap of those things?

THAT is my zone of genius.

That’s the work.

Helping somebody understand why they keep hitting the same invisible wall in business even though they’re intelligent, capable, and called.

Because most of the time, the issue is not strategy.

It’s that the current version of them does not yet fully feel safe becoming the person who has the thing they say they want.

And y’all… that shows up everywhere.

In sales.
In leadership.
In content.
In consistency.
In pricing.
In visibility.
In receiving support.
In receiving money.
In trusting themselves.
In trusting God before the evidence shows up.

That last part especially.

Because internal certainty is not confidence after proof.

It’s the ability to believe before the results arrive.

To keep showing up before the evidence catches up.

To stop constantly needing external validation in order to move.

That’s why this work changes businesses.

Because businesses are built by human beings.

And if the identity underneath the business stays trapped in fear, survival mode, shame, people pleasing, perfectionism, or self-protection, eventually the business reflects it too.

That’s why people come into my world and finally feel seen.

Not because I teach them to “think positive.”

But because I help them understand the patterns underneath what’s actually happening so they can finally become the version of themselves that can hold the life and business they keep praying for.

One things I’ve learned…

You can’t complain if you’re not willing to do something to *change* things.

You can’t complain about your team’s performance if you’re not willing to hold them accountable, let some go, hire new, challenge them, learn about core values & emotional intelligence aka

👏 step 👏 into 👏 REAL 👏 leadership

Not the people pleasing kind.
Not the scarcity kind.
Not the fearful kind.

That’s NOT leadership.

Like wise…

You can’t complain about clients ghosting you, using you as a vending quote machine, not understanding your value & expertise, or booking on their own when your boundaries and service model says that’s OKAY.

👏 step 👏 into 👏 REAL 👏 professionalism

Charge upfront.
Set boundaries.
Educate.
Be clear and be firm.

I will not feel sorry for you… because you are strong, smart, talented, and plenty of capable.

I remember the exact moment I knew I needed to start charging upfront.

It was a military couple planning Walt Disney World.

We had already had one intro Zoom call, and then we had a second vacation reveal call. It was a Saturday morning, and they were literally still in bed in their pajamas, which made the whole thing feel awkward from the beginning.

But I still walked them through:
→ every question
→ resort options
→ pricing
→ recommendations
→ strategy
→ all of it

At the end, they said:
“Thank you so much. We’re gonna think about it and get back to you.”

A day or two later, I got THAT email.

“Thank you so much for your time. We appreciate your knowledge and expertise. We’ve decided to go ahead and book this vacation on our own.”

At first, I was angry.
Bitter.
Resentful.

Like:
“They took advantage of me.”
“How dare they?”

But then I had a hard realization:

I had no reason to be angry with them.

Because I let them do it.

I told them they didn’t have to pay for my time, energy, expertise, emotional labor, or problem-solving.

I willingly gave it away.

I was the one without boundaries.
I was the one not charging upfront.

And many of you are either experiencing this right now…

or you will soon if you haven’t already.

Most of the time, you’re not charging because:
→ you’re afraid you’ll lose clients
→ you’re afraid you’ll miss out
→ you’re afraid people won’t pay
→ you’re afraid people won’t think you’re worth it

And honestly?

So much of that is a lie.

There ARE clients who are eager, excited, grateful, and HAPPY to pay for incredible expertise and service.

Whenever you tell yourself stories like:

“People wouldn’t wanna pay me that much.”
“I couldn’t possibly have that many clients.”
“There is no way my team is as invested as I am.”
“Nobody cares as much about my business as I do.”
“It’s just not possible for me to hit that goal that soon.”

…or any of the other stories you keep telling yourself…

I have news for you:

Your brain wants to prove you right.

And it will literally use your confirmation bias and your RAS filter to prove every single one of those stories as not only possible, not just theory, but unequivocal truth…

…even when they *actually* aren’t.

They’re lies.

That’s why it’s so incredibly powerful to change your mind — AKA change your beliefs and your perspective inside of your business.
