The FSU Department of Classics' own Virginia Lewis — who specializes in Greek literature, with particular interests in Greek poetry and theories of space and place — was recently quoted by Homes.com.

Kelsie Fernandez is a senior double majoring in English literature and humanities. As a participant in the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP), she explored the written power dynamics of 18th-century womanhood under a patriarchal system. She continued exploring this topic through an IDEA Grant, which supported her ongoing work contributing to a literature podcast and an Honors in the Major thesis on Victorian literature.

Commencement week is here at Florida State University, and we’re celebrating our graduates! 🎓

On Friday morning, Sriya Chakraborty will cross the stage to receive her doctorate in literature, media and culture through the Florida State University English Department.

“Many people think poetry is inaccessible or removed from everyday life, but for me, it’s a source of hope and connection.”

After graduation, she’ll begin her new role as an assistant professor at Ohio University while adapting her dissertation, titled “You Breathe, Therefore I Am: Post-War Lyric Subjectivity and the Poethics of Breath,” into her first book.

A recent publication by Gary Taylor — a Robert O. Lawton Distinguished Professor in the Florida State University English Department, part of the FSU College of Arts & Sciences — offers new perspective on how bloodline genealogy is approached in William Shakespeare’s history plays, which spotlight English history from the 12th to 16th centuries.
