Next Tuesday, the FAMU FSU College of Engineering will host Suddhasatwa Basu for a seminar, titled "Biorefining in Electrochemical Reactors: Conversion of Biomass-Derived Compounds to Various Platform Chemicals."
Basu is the Fed Indian Petroleum Indus Chair Professor on Clean Energy at IIT Delhi, and at present, he is also a visiting professor at Washington University in St. Louis. He has vast experience in developing materials for energy conversion and storage devices — such as green hydrogen and fuel cell technologies as well as rechargeable battery materials.

Congratulations to Harrison Prosper, who is one of seven Florida State University faculty members elected to the Academy of Science, Engineering and Medicine of Florida this year!
Prosper is the Kirby W. Kemper Endowed Professor and a Robert O. Lawton Distinguished Professor in the FSU Department of Physics. He is internationally recognized for his contributions to high-energy physics, particularly through his work with the Compact Muon Solenoid experiment at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider. His research has contributed to discoveries involving the gluon, top quark and the Higgs boson, as well as advancements in using Bayesian statistics and machine learning in high-energy physics analysis.

Congratulations to Kathleen Amm, who is one of seven from Florida State University elected to the Academy of Science, Engineering and Medicine of Florida this year!
Amm, who earned her doctorate from the FSU Department of Physics in 1998, is director of the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory, headquartered at FSU. She's an expert in superconductivity and magnet technology with more than 20 years of experience leading industrial and national laboratory programs, including prior leadership at GE Research and Brookhaven National Laboratory.

Congratulations to Jorge Piekarewicz, who is one of seven Florida State University faculty members elected to the Academy of Science, Engineering and Medicine of Florida this year!
Piekarewicz is a a Robert O. Lawton Distinguished Professor in the FSU Department of Physics whose research centers on the behavior of nuclear matter under extreme conditions of density. His work bridges the gap between terrestrial experiments and astronomical observations, using physical observables to understand the complex interior and properties of neutron stars.

Congratulations to Florida State University alumnus Yi Zhang, who has been elected to the National Academy of Sciences!
Zhang — who earned his doctorate through the Molecular Biophysics Graduate Program at FSU in the FSU College of Arts & Sciences — currently serves as the Fred S. Rosen endowed Professor of Pediatrics and Professor of Genetics at Harvard Medical School and Boston Children’s Hospital, as well as an investigator for the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.
"Being elected to the National Academy of Sciences is not only an honor for me, but also an honor for all of my previous trainees as it means that their works done in my lab have finally been recognized,” Zhang said.
