Today we honor the legacy of the last enslaved African Americans in Texas who were finally informed of their freedom, some two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. It was those people, and the generations of Texans who came after them, who made the bold declaration to celebrate this day, marking a reality we know far too well in this country: freedom may be delayed, but it will never be denied.
Though our fight for freedom sadly continues, today we pause to celebrate and embrace the joy of our ancestors who believed in the possibilities of a more promising tomorrow. And in that joy, we remain anchored, steadfast in our pursuit of true freedom and justice for all.

Delta Sigma Theta has always stood for love, inclusion, and respecting the full dignity of every person. While we remain anchored in that legacy, we also acknowledge the need to continue to evolve with intention by championing affirming policies, and forging a culture where every member is seen, valued, and protected.
This Pride Month, we honor and celebrate the beautiful diversity and strength of the LGBTQ+ community and reaffirm our commitment to being allies in the fight for a better future where the freedom to love and exist in one’s authentic identity is not contingent on the political climate. Especially when that freedom is being challenged, we choose to show up louder, love harder, and stand firmer in our commitment to justice for all.

The Tallahassee Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority is proud to announce that registration is 𝐍𝐎𝗪 𝐎𝐏𝐄𝐍 for the 2026–2027 cycle of the 𝐃𝐫. 𝐁𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐲 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐛𝐚𝐳𝐳 𝐃𝐞𝐥𝐭𝐚 𝐀𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐲 (middle school girls ages 11–14) and the 𝐃𝐫. 𝐉𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐞 𝐋. 𝐍𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐥𝐭𝐚 𝐆𝐄𝐌𝐒 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐭𝐞 (high school girls ages 14–18)!!!
These programs help prepare young women for success in life through mentorship, personal growth, and leadership opportunities.
