โจ A Message from Our Incoming Principal
Dear Hunt Middle School Students and Families,
As summer begins, I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself and share how excited I am to be joining Hunt as your next principal.
I am honored to have the opportunity to serve your amazing school community! I am already looking forward to getting to know the students, families, and staff who make Hunt such a special place. Congratulations and best wishes to all of the 8th graders as they move on!
Over the summer, I will be spending time learning from staff, meeting families, and getting to know the traditions and strengths that make Hunt unique. I am excited to partner with you as we continue supporting every student to learn and thrive in middle school. Iโm not usually this excited for September to come in June!
Until then, I hope you enjoy a safe, fun-filled summer. I canโt wait to meet you in the months ahead. Go Thunder!
Warmly,
Ruth Schlattmann

โค๏ธ A Personal Note
Lastly, I want to share my sincere gratitude. It has been an incredible honor to serve you and the Hunt community over the past five years. Hunt has truly become my home, and it is extremely difficult to step away. I am so proud of what our staff, students, and families have built together. There is something very special here, and I know the traditions and community spirit of Hunt will continue to thrive. You will still see me aroundโwhether supporting after-school and ASB activities, or simply as a Hunt parent.
I also want to share that Ms. Hendrix and Ms. Schlattman, who has been a Hunt parent for the past three years, deeply believes in the Hunt Family way and the strength of this community.
Thank you for allowing me to be part of something so meaningful.

๐ซ Club B & Youth Programs
We also want to share that Club B programming may be impacted by Parks Tacoma budget proposals. If youโd like to share your voice, board meetings will be held May 11 and May 18. More details will be shared by email.
Dear Parents and Families,
Parks Tacomaโs Board of Commissioners is considering budget cuts to address a $9 million deficit. Proposed cuts, presented on 5/4/2026, could impact programs our students rely on.
Programs at risk include Club B, School Year Late Night, and Summer Late Night at our schools. If approved, these programs could be reduced or eliminated starting this fall.
These programs provide safe, structured time for students to connect, build confidence, and stay engaged. For many studentsโincluding those in our special education communityโthey offer essential support and belonging.
Please add your voice to protect these programs.
Public comment opportunities:
Monday, May 11, 2026
Center at Norpoint, 4818 Nassau Ave NE, Tacoma, WA 98422
Meet & greet with Commissioners begins at 5:30 PM
Regular meeting begins at 6:00 PM
Monday, May 18, 2026
Parks Tacoma Headquarters, 4702 S 19th St., Tacoma, WA 98405
Meeting begins at 6:00 PM
Meetings are in-person and online. If you canโt attend, email written comments to [email protected] and request the virtual link if needed.
Please consider attending, speaking, or emailing. Commissioners need to hear how vital these programs are to our children and families.
Together, we can help keep Club B and Late Night available for the families who depend on them.
