Congratulations to our Board Member, Lauren Kochian!

Meet our May Nave Hero: Lauren Kochian 💙
Some people imagine the future. Lauren builds it.
As President of the Milton J. Rubenstein Museum of Science & Technology, Lauren has helped expand access to hands-on learning for children across Central New York, opening doors for those who may not have seen a path into STEM.
Through programs like Future Women in STEM and Future Innovators in STEM, she is helping young people see what is possible and where they can go.
Lauren leads by example. She shows up, gets involved, builds partnerships, and finds ways to do more with what is available. Her impact extends beyond the museum through her work with the Syracuse City School District Educational Foundation and her deep commitment to the community.
Her nominator said it best: Lauren has made it her mission to help ensure a bright future for every child in Central New York.
That kind of leadership does more than educate. It creates opportunity.
Lauren, thank you for championing curiosity, access, and the next generation of innovators.

We’re thrilled to welcome Commissioner Gwendolyn Raeford to our Board of Directors!

Commissioner Raeford will serve in the Board of Education’s designated seat and is no stranger to the foundation’s mission and impact, having received three Educational Foundation grants during her distinguished career teaching science in the Syracuse City School District. Her firsthand understanding of how these grants empower educators and enrich student learning will be invaluable as we continue working to expand opportunities for SCSD students and teachers.

Would you like to have your successes highlighted, or be kept in the loop about events that contribute to a more vibrant Syracuse - all while being offered opportunities to support our city’s kids, its teachers and the schools that helped shape so many of us?

We are kicking off an initiative to organize an SCSD alumni network, in order to showcase the remarkable stories of SCSD graduates and to facilitate events that bring us together, while providing opportunities to join us in our efforts to substantially grow the foundation’s impact and expand our reach.

As a first step, we’re putting out a call to action and asking alumni to take thirty seconds to complete the survey form (found in the first comment under this post) and share with your network. We’ll be in touch!

The SCSD Educational Foundation Annual Golf Tournament is coming up on August 10, 2026 at Pompey Golf Club — and we can use your help! We’re looking for:

- Teams / Foursomes (includes lunch and a steak dinner)
- Sponsors looking to make a difference
- Silent Auction Items to help raise funds for student grants and innovative classroom projects

All proceeds benefit the Syracuse City School District Educational Foundation’s Grant Program, supporting teachers and students across the district. We hope to see you there!
