✨Help us congratulate our August Spotlight Career Tech Teacher of the Month!✨

Congratulations Mr. Reynolds!! 🥳👏🏼

We are incredibly lucky to have him at Sylacauga High School and grateful for the passion, creativity, and dedication he brings to our Visual Arts program every single day!

What makes Mr. Reynolds’ program especially special is that its impact reaches far beyond his classroom. Through his dedication to photography, our students are developing real-world skills while helping document the people, moments, celebrations, and accomplishments that make SHS special—from school events to sporting events and everything in between. 📷

Because of the program he has built and the opportunities he gives his students, SHS is getting a visual record of the memories we create together. That is a pretty incredible contribution to our school community!

Congratulations, Mr. Reynolds! We appreciate you, your students appreciate you, and SHS is better because of the work you do! ♥️🖤☺️

✨We’re excited to kick off something new! ✨

Each month, we’ll be shining a spotlight on one of our incredible CTE teachers—showcasing the people behind the programs, the passion they bring to their classrooms, and what their students have to say about being part of these career-focused experiences.

Since our CTE teachers get a jumpstart and begin their school year in July, we’re kicking things off with our July spotlight teacher!

Congratulations to Mr. Alex Mosley! 🥳🎉

Mr. Mosley does an incredible job leading our Project Lead the Way Engineering program, preparing students with real-world skills, encouraging them to explore their potential, and helping them see a future they may not have imagined for themselves. We are incredibly lucky to have him at Sylacauga High School, and his students’ words say so much about the impact he has on their lives.

Help us congratulate Mr. Mosley and stay tuned each month as we continue celebrating the outstanding educators and programs that make Career & Technical Education at SHS so special! ♥️🖤

Our photography students are bringing lighting techniques to life! 📸

They’ve been experimenting with photography lighting and creating some seriously cool effects! Like this “floating head” illusion! 👀

By using black draping and carefully placed lighting, everything disappears into the darkness, leaving just the subject’s head seemingly floating in midair.

Talk about a head-turning technique! 😳

So if you see a floating head walking down the hallway… don’t worry. It’s probably just Mr. Reynolds’ photography students at it again 👻

Hospitality in Action! ✨🍽️

Our Introduction to Hospitality & Tourism students are kicking off the year by exploring the many different types of eating establishments right here in our community!

Students also took on the “Hospitality Challenge,” working in teams to examine real-life scenarios and determine what responses would be unhospitable versus truly hospitable. They had to consider communication, respect, empathy, professionalism, inclusion, problem-solving, and explain why their choices mattered.

✨ I was especially impressed with their collaboration, thoughtful discussions, and willingness to listen to one another! They did an outstanding job working together and putting hospitality skills into practice.

We’re off to a GREAT start! ♥️🖤

Things got a little suspicious in our Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Principles of Biomedical Sciences classroom today!

Students are investigating a simulated crime scene involving a college student, Ana Garcia, who was found on a college campus. But solving the case takes much more than simply looking for clues—it requires students to apply the skills and scientific knowledge they are developing throughout the course.

During this full-scale investigation, students are:

🔎 Taking and analyzing witness statements
🧪 Exploring toxicology and how substances can affect the body
🧫 Studying histology, the study of tissues and how they can provide clues about what happened
🧬 Collecting and examining fingerprints
📊 Analyzing data and evidence
🧠 Applying the scientific method to develop and test conclusions
💓 Learning about polygraphs and the science behind them
🩺 Reviewing autopsy findings
⚖️ Using all of the evidence to ultimately determine Ana Garcia’s cause of death

This is exactly what makes Principles of Biomedical Sciences such an engaging course. Students aren’t just memorizing terminology—they’re learning to think like scientists, analyze evidence, communicate findings, solve problems, and connect biology and human body systems to real-world careers in the biomedical sciences.

Don’t worry, our “victim” is just a mannequin!

The investigation, however, is VERY real! 🕵️‍♀️🔬
