Back-to-school season is here, Dragons! โค๏ธ๐Ÿค

The first day of school for all Swartz Creek students is Monday, August 31, and itโ€™s a half-day PM schedule for everyone! We are so excited to welcome our Dragons back. Here are a few things families can do now to help make the transition as smooth as possible:

โœ… Ease Into the Routine: Start shifting bedtimes and wake-up times now. A steady routine can make those first mornings much easier!

โœ… Practice Lunch Skills: For our younger Dragons, practice opening lunch containers, snack packages, and water bottles. Those little skills build confidence and independence.

โœ… Keep School Supplies Simple for Now: General elementary and middle school supply lists are available on our website by grade level, but we recommend sticking with the basics for nowโ€”pencils, notebooks, folders, highlighters, etc. Save those receipts and wait until Open House or until your childโ€™s teacher shares any classroom-specific needs before purchasing too much. High school families should wait until classes begin and teachers share what students will need for each course.

โœ… Talk It Through: Talk with your child about what the school day might look like. A little preparation can go a long way toward easing nerves and building excitement.

โœ… Label Everything: Backpacks, jackets, water bottles, lunchboxesโ€”if itโ€™s heading to school, put a name on it!

๐Ÿšจ Early 5s & Kindergarten Families: Parents will attend with their child on the first day from 1:00โ€“2:00 PM for a special welcome. More information will be mailed with classroom placement letters.

๐Ÿซ Schedule Pick Up & Open Houses Are Coming! High School Schedule Pick Up is August 20, Middle School Schedule Pick Up is August 27, and Middle School and Elementary Open Houses are August 27. The High School Open House will be on September 8. Check the graphic for specific times and details.

๐Ÿ“ฉ As we get closer to August 31, watch for school-specific communication from your childโ€™s building with everything you need to start the year feeling prepared, including elementary classroom placement letters.

We canโ€™t wait to fill our classrooms and hallways with Dragons again. Hereโ€™s to a great 2026โ€“2027 school year! Go Dragons! โค๏ธ๐Ÿค

In its ongoing commitment to total community transparency, Swartz Creek Community Schools is sharing an update regarding the receipt of a $40 million purchase agreement proposal for Morrish Elementary, delivered by MegaSite representatives. In strict compliance with open meeting laws and public transparency requirements, the sealed envelope was formally opened during the full, public session of our recent board meeting so that all board members and community constituents could witness the initial presentation firsthand. Given the significant public interest and history surrounding this site, the Administrative action has been taken to immediately forward this to our legal counsel at Thrun Law Firm for a complete and rigorous evaluation.

Dear Morrish Families,

It is with mixed emotions that I share some important news with you. I have recently accepted a position as Principal of Myers Elementary in the Grand Blanc Community Schools and will be leaving my role as Principal of Morrish Elementary.

This decision was not made lightly. Serving as the principal of Morrish has been one of the greatest honors of my career. Over the past two years, I have had the privilege of working alongside an incredible staff, partnering with supportive families, and most importantly, getting to know and celebrate the amazing students who make Morrish such a special place.

Together, we have accomplished so much. From strengthening our academic programs and implementing new curriculum resources to building a positive school culture focused on kindness, responsibility, and student success, I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved as a school community. The dedication of our staff and the support of our families have made Morrish a place where students thrive, and I am grateful to have been part of that journey.

While I am excited for this new opportunity, leaving Morrish is bittersweet. The relationships I have built with students, families, and staff will always hold a special place in my heart. Morrish is more than a school; it is a family, and I will forever cherish the memories and experiences we have shared together.

I am confident that Morrish will continue to flourish. The exceptional staff, strong family partnerships, and remarkable students that make this school so special will continue to ensure its success for years to come.

Thank you for your trust, support, and partnership during my time as principal. It has truly been a privilege to serve the Morrish community. I wish each of you continued success and happiness, and I will always be cheering for Morrish from afar.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Jaclyn Thompson
Principal, Morrish Elementary School

Itโ€™s a very special day at Morrish Elementary as we celebrate Grandma Sherry! For 16 years, she has dedicated her time, kindness, and heart to volunteering in Mrs. Comeauโ€™s classroom, making a lasting impact on so many students and staff along the way. Today, we celebrate her incredible commitment as she officially retires. Thank you, Grandma Sherry, for the love and joy you brought to Morrish each and every day! You will be greatly missed! ๐Ÿ’™
