This sunscreen painting activity is a creative way to combine art and science 🎨☀️! Kids will explore how sunscreen protects against UV rays while creating a surprise design revealed by the sun.
Materials:
- Black construction paper
- Sunscreen (any SPF)
- Paper plate
- Paintbrush
- Sunny outdoor space

Instructions:
1. Take black construction paper outside on a sunny day.
2. Squeeze sunscreen onto a paper plate. Use a paintbrush to “paint” a design onto the paper using sunscreen.
3. Place the paper in direct sunlight.
4. Use something to hold down the paper to avoid it blowing away.
5. Leave it outside for a few hours.
6. Bring the paper inside and observe how the sun lightened the uncovered areas while the sunscreen-protected design remains darker.
