There is nothing like the magic of a great book in the summertime to transport you to another time and place! This summer, I am loving lively book discussions with engaged readers as they work their way through their favorites. I have the best job!

PS- I love that this student is reading a book I enjoyed at her age. It was fun for us to think about how many other readers had cherished this over the 60 years it has been published. What timeless classics books can be!

As I wrap up my first year of tutoring, I am so grateful for the wonderful families and children that I've worked with! These happy faces are a couple of the great kids I get to spend my days with. The time spent with children in this simple format brings me back to the reason I became a teacher. Looking forward to year two!

During Reading Month, I would like to express my gratitude for our amazing public library! It provides a great space to work, a cozy area to curl up with a good book, tremendous resources, and so much more!

During our tutoring sessions, we use a fun rainbow eraser to wipe away our errors and help us to remember that it is more than okay to make them!

It's been a great week! I have received several messages from parents who are thrilled seeing their child's hard work paying off as midyear assessment results roll in. I love seeing these learners gain confidence and momentum and feel privileged to support them in the process.

I am looking forward to helping out this Friday afternoon at the Book Handout for the Battle of the Books Grand Traverse program. It will be a delight to see excited readers discover the book selection for this year! Keep an eye out for the 2024 booklist that will be unveiled Friday as it is certain to be full of good reads.

Our first impulse when teaching someone how to do something is to tell them what to do; especially with children. If we pause and ask questions, we can help them to help themselves. Asking our children what they think they should do next, or how they have solved a similar problem before is a great way to teach. We may be surprised by what they already know!
