As a childcare owner and educator, I believe education is inherently political. It’s not just about academics, which, of course, are essential. I prioritize fostering good humans who know joy, kindness, and curiosity and enjoy learning. Education shapes not only what children learn but who they become, preparing them for life in a world that values freedom, respect, and understanding.

As a woman, LGBTQ, POC, and humanist, my very existence is political, and so is my work. Education isn’t neutral; it’s a powerful tool that impacts the future our children will inherit. Every day, I strive to create a space where each child feels seen, valued, and empowered to use their voice. I am here to support their choices and growth and to stand for a future where every person’s dignity, freedom, and happiness matter. These aren’t just abstract ideals. They are principles I live and breathe daily in my classroom, with every child and family I welcome into The Garden.

No matter the outcome of this election, my commitment remains. I will continue to challenge what needs changing, dismantle what no longer serves us, and help repair what has been broken. Supporting children’s right to be who they are, whether that’s in how they learn, who they love, or what they believe, is a revolutionary act. I’m honored to do this work, creating a foundation for a world celebrating each child’s unique potential and future.

In a world where values like inclusivity, autonomy, and kindness are challenged, teaching is a form of advocacy. I am here to support each child in becoming empowered, compassionate, and free to choose their path, and that’s a powerful statement about the kind of society I want for them and all of us.

I can’t tell you how lucky and honored I feel to work with families and educators who are on the same page. Together, we are raising a generation that knows they matter, that their voices are heard, and that their choices are respected. And that, to me, is the most meaningful kind of work there is.

Here are a few simple ways to engage with infants:

1. Sensory Play
» Sensory play is play that stimulates a child’s senses. Playing with different textures, temperatures, sounds, pictures, and tastes can help children develop language and motor skills. It also fosters creativity, curiosity, and problem-solving.

2. Singing/Puppet Play
» Singing, talking, reading, and puppet play are timeless ways to bond with children and foster language. In addition, children have the opportunity to strengthen brain development, listening, and language skills

3. Baby Yoga
» Yoga with babies isn’t as intimidating as many think! Keep it simple. Stretching, breathing, and calming your body in front of and with a baby benefit both of you. Take a moment to breathe, stretch, and engage in simple poses where the baby can observe. As your child grows, include them in simple stretches and movements (Happy Baby pose, Goddess pose, Boat pose, etc.) Yoga promotes body control, fine and gross motor skills, flexibility, muscle strengthening, and more.

4. Outside Time
» Come on, y’all. We all know being outside has copious amounts of benefits! Vitamin D, fresh air, and being in nature, to name a few. You can enjoy outside time (safely, of course) with babies as soon as day one!

5. Quiet time/Independent Play
» It’s okay to safely walk away from an awake baby occasionally. Set up a safe place for your child to play while you take care of your needs and other needs around the home. Providing your child with small amounts of alone time is healthy for the children and their caregivers. During this time, children learn confidence and self-regulation/soothing skills and understand that they are independent of you.

✨ Please be mindful that these activities are suggestions and may not be suitable for every child or caregiver.
