Surviving the Holidays

Help and Hope as You Navigate the Holiday Season.
When: Thursday, November 30 from 6pm- 8pm
Where: Summersville Memorial United Methodist Church- 1317 Webster Road (Next to Hardee’s)
After the death of a loved one, you may be worried about the upcoming holiday season. Some of you may be wishing that you could go to sleep the day before Thanksgiving and wake up on January 2. This special program will help you make it through this holiday season.
Surviving the Holidays includes an informative video featuring the wisdom and perspective of 13 grief recovery experts and interviews with others who have wrestled with grief during the holiday season. The video also shows how you can plan your holiday season so you are not overwhelmed by it. You will have the opportunity to talk about your loved one and how you are feeling about the holidays, but there is no pressure to share. You can participate by listening. At the end of the evening, each person will light a candle and share a name or special memory of their loved one.
This program will be facilitated by Sandy Goad.

Welcome to the page! I'm Sandy Goad. I'm a trained and certified grief group facilitator. I received my training from Dr. Darcie Sims who founded the Grief Academy in Louisville Kentucky.

Darcie was one of the top five bereavement educators in the country at the time of her death in 2014.

Since 2002, I have worked with many people in the Summersville community who have lost a loved one. I also have worked with twins in the Mid-Atlantic region who have lost their twin and have recruited and trained the Regional Coordinators for a national twin support group called Twinless Twins.

Four times a year, I write a column called the Empty Chair for a national grief publication.
