A little something I put together to hopefully save you some money on your flowers this year. When the weather starts to warm, esp. after we get that extra hour of sunlight (starts this weekend), many get the itch to start planting.

Over the past 30 years, our average last Freeze is March 31st. However, our average last Frost is later. Remember that.
It is actually April 17th.

I usually tell people to wait until after Tax Day (April 15) and most are safe. The coldest rural areas are smart to play it safe until late April.

Why?????
Because the official temperatures are taken 5 feet above the ground and it is an Air Temperature. Just below that level, when the air is calm, the heavier cold air will settle to surfaces (grass, plants, car tops, wind shields). Sometimes these surfaces will will cool to 32° or less, even if the air at 5 feet never drops below the mid 30s. To play it safe, I used 37° as my cut-off.

Also, our latest Freeze on record was May 8, 1989 (we dipped to 32°) and our latest Frost would have been May 28, 1961 (when we dipped to 36°). So play it safe if you don't want to buy flowers twice.
