Despite our Alaskan cruise being canceled, we had five amazing days exploring:
šŸ“Port Coquitlam: Hiking, food, & chillin’
šŸ“Whistler: The Scandinave Spa (a Nordic thermal journey spa experience with absolutely no tech allowed) & Whistler Village
šŸ“Downtown Vancouver: Good food, lots of shopping & thrifting, & beautiful scenery

I’ve been to Canada before & I always recommend doing the Capilano Suspension Bridge and taking a ferry to visit Victoria to walk the Craigdorroch Castle and have tea at the Empress Hotel.

Whew. 🄹 A lot of planning and sacrifice went into this Alaskan cruise. CANCELLED. Words can’t fully express my disappointment. However, the blessings that have rained down as a result demonstrate God’s CONTINUED favor over our lives. The comeback is God showing out. We are grateful for the five FULL days exploring British Columbia!! Listen, baby I THRIFTED!! I have an additional suitcase of thrifted finds. Oh, and time with the hubby and friends was great too. Kudos to Royal Caribbean for making this trip up to us in ROYAL fashion. We are pleased and grateful.

My thrifting be RANDOM.
I had time on Tuesday last week to run into the Family Thrift on Long Point. Here’s everything I was able to pick up on this haul.

My life is so scheduled and action-packed. I live for a random day when I can do something random. It really helps to regulate my nervous system. The slow walking, the scrape of the hanger on the rod, and the high for treasure always always breaks the weekly monotony of all the roles and responsibilities of ALL the roles. 🤪

Thrifting is therapy. Giving it away is also therapy.

I have reinvented how I show up in the world. It’s been years of work and I can see and feel my evolution.

Starting therapy in 2013, changed my perspective. It was the catalyst for me to heal by confronting so much trauma and pain. It has helped me become more self-aware of my patterns and mindsets.

Writing ā€œWhen Hurt Helpsā€ allowed me to share my story and the tools that helped me along the way. I am grateful for this time, place, and opportunity to live fully.

What would you change if you gave yourself permission to evolve?

Yep, kinda chic indeed.
God’s favor overwhelmingly. šŸ™ŒšŸ¾
I prefer at-home workouts. Period. Always have if ya been following me for a while. It keeps me consistent.

To deepen my practice, I have found 2 amazing private Pilates instructors to personalize my progress.

It’s different being at home but over the last month, I’ve been using what I’ve learned from the studio & watching videos, to stretch my capacity.

It just didn’t make financial sense to pay that monthly cost when I could own it and workout on my schedule.

Alright, don’t be surprised if I say I’m a Pilates instructor at some point. šŸ˜‰

At age 50, I truly value building & sustaining strength for the life I want to live now and beyond. This is living fully. Fully on my own terms.

After 25+ years in education, I’ve learned that the principles that shape a strong classroom are often the same ones that shape a strong organization.

Culture before content.
People need to understand the environment, the values, and how we show up together before they can fully engage in the work.

Connection before compliance.
Expectations and accountability matter, but people are more likely to rise to the standard when they feel seen, respected, and connected to the purpose.

Model what you expect them to replicate.
I can’t ask future educators to create collaborative, learner-centered classrooms if they never experience one. And I can’t ask leaders to build healthy, accountable teams if I’m not modeling that in the way I lead.

At this stage of my career, I’m thinking more and more about what gets multiplied, specifically what the people I teach and lead are equipped to carry forward.

This is how leadership becomes legacy.

Which one has shaped your leadership most: culture, connection, or modeling?

Hebrews12:11 says, ā€œNo discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.ā€

I’m be trained to be transformed. I’m embracing the cycle of being uncomfortable to produce a changed version of me.

My faith is being stretched and I am here for it. I’m grateful to see my journey from the Biblical greats:

Jacob has to wrestle.

Esther has to risk.

Peter has to step out the boat.

Paul’s life is disrupted disrupted.

Different stories. Same principle.

Transformation rarely happens in comfort.
GET COMFORTABLE BEING UNCOMFORTABLE.
