I’ll be honest—there were times I felt angry at the military for all it demanded from him and from us. But as I look back now, I see how necessary those sacrifices were, not just for Chris but for every veteran who served selflessly.

Today, as we find peace and strength within our own home, I’m filled with gratitude for what those years taught us. To every veteran: your dedication and resilience are not forgotten. Thank you for the sacrifices you’ve made.

As the spouse of a veteran who has sacrificed much to ensure that we live in a country where our freedoms are protected, I find it troubling that your influence might lead people to vote in a particular way simply because you, a pop icon, said so. Our nation’s decisions are too critical to be dictated by celebrity endorsements rather than thoughtful, independent consideration.

I wish you had used your influence to encourage your fans to vote in a way that they believe will truly benefit their families and the future of our country.
