On Friday, May 1st, upper-level students in South Fork High School’s Academy of Veterinary Assisting attended tours of St. Petersburg College’s Veterinary Technology Program and ZooTampa at Lowry Park.
At SPC, students learned how their studies at SFHS could help them after graduation by continuing their education in animal care. They visited the Veterinary Technology Center, learned about various equipment and procedures, and even observed some of SPC’s Veterinary Technology students in action.
While at ZooTampa, students experienced and learned about the veterinary care, nutrition, and husbandry of wild and exotic animals from around the world.
Together, these experiences enabled SFHS’s Veterinary Assisting students not only to make real-world connections to the program’s standards but also to explore higher education and career opportunities.

In our Building Construction Academy at South Fork High School, Mr. Geoff Otton from Otton Woodworking gave our students a hands-on opportunity to learn the art of turning wood by creating their own pepper grinders. Under expert guidance, students experienced the process from raw wood to a finished, functional project, building both skill and confidence on the lathe. The excitement in the shop was clear as students collaborated, asked questions, and took pride in their work. Most importantly, the experience was not only educational but fun, leaving students motivated and eager to continue exploring the woodworking trades. A HUGE Thank you to Mr. Otton for volunteering his time to engage with and inspire our students. South Fork High School 👊
