We, the Beekeepers of our Association, are located in the Pocono Mountain, Slate Belt, and Lehigh Valley regions of northeastern Pennsylvania. Comprised of beekeepers of all ages and experience (though not all of us have beehives), we share a bond created by awe and respect of that tiny creature that is the only insect that produces a food for humans, and what a delightful food it is. We also reco
gnize that much of our other food is due to her pollination efforts without which we would be lacking many fruits, vegetables, dairy and meat products. In addition to her pollination efforts, she is an indicator of how good we are as stewards of nature for she does not well tolerate chemical and biological contamination of her environment. She is the canary in the coal mine of agricultural, lawn, and garden practices. Finally, there is also emotional and spiritual dimensions to the tending of this gentle creature. If we handle her with calmness, patience, and gentle determination, she goes about her business with nary an interest. But if we bring anger, impatience, and roughness to our beekeeping, she will quickly give her life to make us realize the error of our ways. Beekeeping allows one to forget the cares of our world during the time we are tending to the cares of her world. We hope this site will provide both inspiration and instruction about us and the object of our care. Meetings are scheduled for the second Wednesday of each month from March through November. Meetings begin at 7 PM and are held at the Monroe County Conservation District's Environmental Education Center located at 8050 Running Valley Road in Stroudsburg, PA.
