We proudly wear the colors are red and black representing strength and power. While Alima started out portraying predominately African style dances, we now stand for regions from around the globe including Haiti, Senegal, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and much more. The goals of Alima are to promote cultural awareness and cohesion of all different ethnicities and nationalities. We strive
to represent patience, acceptance, discipline, athleticism, and hard work. All of our dances tell a story and seek to show our audiences that we are all connected as one through music and dance, no matter where we come from in the world. Alima International Dance Association was founded in 2005 at the University of Rhode Island by Rama Ly. In the fall of 2009, Carly Olson founded a new branch after she transferred to the University of Connecticut from the University of Rhode Island. Alima UConn hopes to continue to grow both as a part of UConn and a family of our own.
