Provincetown Dance Festival ✨

Dancing solo but not alone - grateful to have shared the stage with the beautiful voice of Taniya Panda.

It was fantastic feeling to present my work alongside brilliant and diverse artists, and to be able to watch you from the wings.

I first encountered Sankai Juku in 2001, and they changed my life.

I was about 6 months into full-time Bharatanatyam training in Chennai, and wondering what to do with this passion of mine. I went to Stockholm to see my just-born nephew (hi nak_muay_nikke!), and randomly saw a show by Sankai Juku at the beautiful Dansens Hus Stockholm.

The shimmering depth of their movement shook me up and made me see dance anew. I left their show and decided to become an artist.

25 years later, this past summer, I got to experience their creative process at their Butoh intensive, and perform alongside them at this exquisite Noh theater. Semimaru and the dancers are consummate artists - from the lighting, to the staging, right down to each extraordinary earpiece by Akihito Ichihara/ ELF/ Sankai Juku/ 市原昭仁

I emerge - transformed and inspired - once again. I am eternally grateful to all of you sankaijuku and my comrades in Butoh at the workshop.🪷🪷🪷

I am thrilled to share that I’ll be performing at the 20th anniversary of the Provincetown Dance Festival this August! I am honored to be performing there again after a 12-year gap. Looking forward to sharing my classical Bharatanatyam choreography alongside an exceptional - and eclectic - line up.

Our Gitanjali Recital & Reunion was about more than a performance—it was a community coming together in support of immigrant communities.

Thanks to the generosity of our dancers, families, and audience, we raised a collective $2700 for Cosecha and First Friends of New Jersey & New York through dancer contributions, ticket sales, food sales, poster sales, and additional community donations. Thank you to everyone who contributed, volunteered, attended, and helped spread the word. Together, we truly make a difference.

Congratulations to all of our dancers and musicians for a beautiful and inspiring evening. Every dancer brought something unique to the stage—from the energy of the ensemble pieces to the intimacy of the solos and duets. A special congratulations to those who presented original choreography, and heartfelt thanks to our musicians, Samyukta, Kabilan, and Barghava, whose artistry made the evening unforgettable. Congratulations as well to our emerging musicians Anagha and Avi on your wonderful orchestra debut.

Thank you for making this year’s Gitanjali Recital & Reunion such a meaningful celebration of art, community, and generosity. ❤️

A butterfly crosses borders without knowing where the winds will take it. As we revisit Malini’s intergenerational choreography of Titli (“Butterfly”), we reflect on migration as a journey of transformation, courage, chance, and hope.

That spirit is at the heart of this year’s Gitanjali Dance School Recital & Reunion on June 20 at 5:00 PM at All Saints Church. In recognition of World Refugee Day, proceeds from the performance will support two organizations serving migrant communities.

Join us for an evening of dance, music, and community as we celebrate the stories that move us—across places, generations, and cultures.

Six school assemblies, one unforgettable month. ✨

Closing out AAPI Heritage Month with gratitude for this incredible team of musicians, dancers, students, and educators. From cancellations and schedule changes to last-minute pivots, we adapted and made it happen!

Special thanks to Kiran Rajagopalan for traveling from Chicago to join us in the chaos and beauty that is NYC.
