The Dreamer Success Center had the extraordinary opportunity to experience and witness advocacy in action at the Capital, in Sacramento. The students were engaged and fascinated with how advocacy works. This event opened their minds to a whole new world. Shoutout and a big thank you to Abraham Bedoy, from Immigrant Legal Resource Center for inviting us to this empowering experience! 🙌🙌🙌

The Dreamer Success Center had the opportunity to visit UC Davis with a group of students. It was an inspiring experience getting to explore the campus, learn about opportunities, and imagine our future there. The students greatly enjoyed the experience and found the visit both engaging and memorable. A special thank you to Dean Marmolejo and the tour guides for making this visit so meaningful and impactful. Moments like this remind us that going to a UC Campus is possible and within reach!

Dear Delta College Community,
I’m excited to share the message below from Professor Mario Moreno highlighting a powerful student art exhibition currently on display in the Dreamer Success Center.

Lotería: Somos Nosotros

A Chicanx Art Exhibition at San Joaquin Delta College’s Dreamer Success Center in April 2026

Lotería has been played in Mexico for over a century. There are few people with roots in that region who did not grow up with the game, including the cards, the calls, and the laughter around the table.

Through its artful cards, it carries the faces of everyday people and the images of everyday life, including things we recognize and things that are ours, especially in the Chicano community. The images are part of the magic of the game because they connect people to elements that are seen around us.

Students in the Spring 2026 Art 9 Chicanx/Latinx Art: Resistance and Affirmation Through Painting class started their project by playing the original game. The classroom got loud fast. Lots of laughter, lots of ¡Buenas!

Then came the harder part. Each student had to figure out what images belong in their Lotería. What images speak to where I come from, what I carry, or what I see? They carefully considered their community, culture, and broader society. They researched. They reflected. They painted. The cards on this wall are their answer: La Luna, La Catrina, La Dama, El Sombrero, El Sagrado Corazón, El Diablito, La Cucaracha, La Espada, El Maíz, La Granada, Rafflesia Arnoldii, Huītzilōpōchtli, El Elotero, La Migrante, El Alienígena, and More Equal.

Come see the show at the Dreamer Success Center through April. Look at the cards. Laugh. Reflect. Remember. Renew.

¡Bueno! - Mario Moreno

🦋 The Hygiene Fair was a great turnout! The Dreamer Success Center was out tabling, sharing information about our student resources and promoting our upcoming Letter Writing Workshop on February 10 from 10:00 AM–2:00 PM.
In HOLT 201.

Letters will be sent to the Fresno Detention Center. If you can’t attend, no worries, email [email protected], and we’ll write and send a letter on your behalf.

Together, we hope to send messages of hope and encouragement during these challenging times. 🦋

🦋The Artist Talk with Professor Mario Moreno was a full house, filled with love, culture, and history. I was grateful to be able to stop in and listen as he shared insights from his sabbatical and the heart behind his work.

This is his final semester at Delta (Spring 2026), and he will truly be missed on campus. It has been an honor to work alongside him, and I’m thankful for the thoughtful gift he shared during his presentation.

The Dreamer Success Center wishes Professor Mario Moreno all the best as he enters this next chapter—retirement after this semester. 🦋

Late post, but such a good read🦋
Shoutout to Alejandra Baltodano for Every Word Counts: Media Literacy Through an ESL Lens.

I really loved how Professor Tara Cuslidge-Staiano breaks media literacy down into four simple actions: examine, question, interpret, and explain. Simple, powerful, and so needed especially for multilingual learners.

Highly recommend checking it out.
