These girls are proving that you’re never too young to begin your music journey! Their growth and perseverance amazes me with each lesson and I am blessed by their hearts for the Lord.

“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.”

When I was in 9th grade, I had a violin teacher who gave me the opportunity to assist her in the beginning orchestra, which is where I received my first experience teaching music. It was fun to help and I was a stand partner with a particular student who thrived off of having help in certain areas. It was also the first time I got to experience the joy of teaching someone, and seeing how young children are filled with joy from music.

Unprompted, my teacher came up to me as we were cleaning the classroom and asked me if I had ever considered teaching music one day. In all honesty, I hadn’t. At that time, I considered being a veterinarian and music was only a fun hobby. It was her words that sparked that particular thought and possibility, which I now know was the Holy Spirit speaking through her. Once she had spoken that encouragement over me, I began to receive different confirmations throughout high school that God was calling me to be a music teacher. I often think about where I would be if my teacher hadn’t spoken that over me, or if she even realizes what an impact it made.

Teachers, NEVER underestimate how the Holy Spirit uses the words you speak over your students!

Had a wonderful time playing this duet with one of my piano students. “Tale of the Shadow” by Sail North is one of her favorite pieces. She has come so far!
