In consideration of the safety of our students and staff, all schools within the Steamboat Springs School District will be closed on Thursday, January 18. This includes Soda Creek Elementary, Strawberry Park Elementary, Sleeping Giant School, Steamboat Springs Middle School, Steamboat Springs High School, and Yampa Valley High School. North Routt Community Charter School will contact their families with any updates to their operations.

The well-being of our students and staff is our foremost priority, and we believe this decision is essential to ensuring everyone’s safety due to hazardous road conditions in our area. This decision was not made lightly, and we understand this is a rare occurrence for our school district. We appreciate your understanding. Please be safe. We will post any further updates on the school district website and social media channels (Facebook and Instagram).

We hope you can make our Family Movie and Resource Night on April 11th at 6:00 PM. We will have speakers from Steamboat Reading, NW Colorado Healthcoverage Guides, and Advocates of Routt County. While your children are enjoying Matila or Encanto, we will have breakout sessions for you to choose from. The topics range from building early literacy skills to managing screen time in older students. We hope to see you there! Thank you to Sleeping Giant School PTIC for your support!

Our Cub Choir students performed at the film showing of "Mission Mt. Magart." It featured our nation's 10th Mountain Division, here's a spotlight on one of the most influential local 10th Mountain Division veteran, Gordon Wren:

Inspired by ski jumper John Steele, Steamboat Springs resident Gordon Wren is known as “the greatest all-around American skier of all time.” Among his many accolades, Hall of Famer Wren was the only American to qualify in all four Olympic ski events; the first American to beat the 300 foot ski jumping record; served as an instructor for the World War II 10th Mountain Division and the largest ski training program in the world. Locally, Wren is legendary for his ski coaching skills, discipline and dedication. Many local Olympic skiers attribute Wren as a key component of their athletic success. Wren is a National and Colorado Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame Member, and a Colorado Sports Hall of Fame member.
Most notably, Wren coached Buddy Werner, the first American to win major world skiing awards, including the prestigious Holmenkollen in Norway.
