Still need a few more staff people this summer at Upward Bound!

This is a great opportunity for High School seniors or graduates who are at least 18 years of age or for someone who needs a place to live for the summer, has a clear background check, is drug, alcohol and to***co free, and has a heart for Christian service. These are stipend based positions that include room and board through August. Our current counseling staff of 12 includes several people who have returned to serve from past years and are from Jamaica, Bolivia and Mexico.

In addition to our full time summer counselors we also host high school volunteers, 16-17 years of age who support the counselors in working with campers for one to three weeks at a time. I started out as a volunteer 40 years ago, planning to stay only one week but ended up staying for 4 years!

We also need a nurse, or nurses, who can serve at least one full week, longer if possible. We have one nurse who can come for a few weeks but isn’t able to serve for the entire summer. Nurses at Upward Bound support our campers with medical needs including medication monitoring and distribution and routine medical care. These positions are salaried.

Finally we need a kitchen manager/cook. This should be someone who has a food manager certificate, but we are willing to pay for someone to take the food manager course if they have demonstrated skill and experience cooking for large groups.

Happy Friday! As some of you know I host a radio show on our local community radio station in Mill City every Friday morning from 10:00 am to noon. This morning on Robin’s Radio Round-Up I will have a my first ever guest! Bethany Davis, an Upward Bound Camper and friend to everyone she knows, will join me on the air!
